FD, first, let's not think that ESPN has ever not reported a rumor and run with it, or that they really believe in journalistic integrity.
Second, we've got is a "he said/he said" issue, with a journalist and a subject and a "we've been here before" feeling. There are other sources (and why would you discredit an unnamed one, anyway?) that confirm this. The only source that says this didn't happen is Favre, who would lose the respect of Packer faithful if it got out that he told stuff, though like you said, this stuff isn't uncommon.
There are other sources (Mort, for example) that don't doubt Glazer's report. King himself spoke from a position of "if it's true", which is odd considering where he stands with the guy. There are other sources as well, and if it's all bunk and it turns out Favre is innocent, I'll be one of the first ones to say "I'm a nimrod".
My point with bringing this back up was the ESPN report saying they got a source that denied the report (hence, that's why they put it on their "Ignore" report) became the issue.
Bass, I think you put waaaaaay too much effort into disliking Favre and ESPN isn't supposed to have "journalistic integrity". Leave that stuff for 60 minutes or even Real Sports. ESPN is a network for sports scores, updates, and highlights...not hard hitting pieces about whether or not a player did something every player who has ever switched teams does.
I think most people couldn't care less about the story unless they dislike Favre and think this helps taint the legacy they all despise so much.
What I can't understand is why people have so much animosity toward Favre. Dude's just a football player and it's not he's an asshole or a bad guy. I think the Favre haters on this board would say I'm some kind of Favre apologist and I couldn't care less about the guy...I'm just amused by the hate.

I think people hate Favre because of the attention he gets and the fact that announcers and writers publicly fawn all over him 24/7. In my opinion, this is laughably annoying, but I still like the guy because of what he used to do on the field.
And Favre still attracts a lot of attention, which is why every site is writing these pieces on a non-issue. Bass and the rest of the world would not be up in arms if this story was about Michael Turner.

I think the bulk of it comes from how he has treated Green Bay over the last 2-3 years. Retiring, not retiring, retiring, not retiring, retired, definitely retired, suddenly not retired, pay me or trade me even though you spent all offseason gameplanning like I was retired, no thanks to your huge $30M offer for me to not play, etc etc.
Me me me me me me me ME! Until there is a story like this, and then it's "Why is everyone talking about me?"

Not sure where else to put this. Brady's lingering problems with infection place his ACL graft (usually taken from the Achilles tendon OR from a cadaver) at risk. If he's really had an infection for several weeks, then the graft needs to be replaced. Any time any prosthetic or surgically implanted device/structure is surrounded by infection, the likelihood of failure of that device is HIGH.
Furthermore, because the ACL is in the knee's joint space, it also means that his JOINT is at risk. He'll probably have early arthritis as a result of this at the very least.

I really have no animosity towards the guy. The issue I have is how the media portrays him at times, and sometimes, how he plays that.
I've never said "Favre told secrets to the Lions! He should be reamed and drawn and quartered!" All I've said is:
1) I believe he talked to them, and
2) The report was exaggerated (both by other sources saying he physically met with them, of by ESPN saying it didn't happen at all).
And I found the quote by LeRoy Butler (in fact, all of this actually) interesting. Is he just stirring crap up b/c of a grudge?

Not that I can think of. Peyton Manning had an infection, but it sounds like that was taken care of in short order. Some surgeons disdain sterile technique when EXAMINING the patient's post-operatively. The old school guys won't always wear gloves. The fact that it is disgusting is one thing. The fact that it places the patient at risk is another. It sounds like the graft itself is the source of the infection. If that is the case, he has no choice but to remove it, LET THE JOINT HEAL FIRST (meaning can't put in a new ACL yet), THEN replace the ACL graft. The replacement requires a deeper drilling to reanchor the graft.
Sounds like lots of bad luck for Brady. The other thing, is that there is a good chance he might have to be on life long antibiotics. That would suck big time.

Wanted to make an edit....I said that a graft can be harvested from the Achilles...I was mistaken, it should have read patellar tendon.

I was talking to my friend about Jim Miller while I was typing my post (the guy Hugh Douglas drilled into Soldier Field's sod) and he had torn his Achilles. I was working in a biomechanics lab when he tore it as QB at Michigan State. Anyway, transposed info.....
Anti-biotics DO lose efficacy over time. The doses they take are preventive doses. The efficacy lost is related to weeding out the bacteria which are sensitive to the anti-biotics leaving those which are not sensitive to then take over. For an infection to take root, you need enough of the bacteria to really overpower the immune system. Otherwise, it can be addressed by your native immunity. So, with long term abx use, the thought is that you will prevent that critical mass of bugs from accruing.
Truthfully, he's screwed if this involves the bones in any significant way. I kind of feel bad for praying for his misfortune. Perhaps I was responsible?

Santonio Holmes is probably going to be sitting for a week or two at some point this season.
How can an athlete smoke blunts, by the way? Those heavy wrappers made my chest feel like it was going to cave in the day after.

Blunts are too much work just to alter the taste a bit. I always thought rolling blunts was the kind of pointless activity that is symptomatic of professional stoners who have no job.

High school and college, sure. Wasn't my first choice (or second or third), but some of the black guys I used to smoke with were obsessed with them. It was like spinners for their lungs.
