Birds plan to use him at FB, per PFT.
Fills that need, I guess. But it's only a 1 year deal.

Yeah, im fine with that Bass.
Here's the PFT story...
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with free agent Dan Klecko.
Klecko has primarily played defensive tackle during his five-year NFL career with the Colts and Patriots, but the Eagles plan to move him to fullback.
The 5-foot-11, 275-pound Klecko has some experience as a fullback in short-yardage and goal line situations, and he caught a four-yard touchdown pass in last year’s AFC Championship Game. Eagles coach Andy Reid apparently sees Klecko as the kind of athlete who could blossom on offense if he practiced at fullback on a full-time basis.

It'll be interesting how (or even if) he's used. He'll be thrown at least one or 2 passes a game. But if he improves the ST, then this will be a good signing.
Not a stretch to see him playing DL, either.

Wow I think ya blew that one Bass.
I dont see them throwin to him NEARLY that often.
I see him as a goal line battering ram, maybe 3rd and short type RB.
Blocking mainly. That and ST's.
Not thrown to.

Don't want you to think I'm saying he'll be supplanting any of the "established" starters on DL, but he does give you a slight option as far as injuries. Not enough to move anyone else, though, agreed.
I don't see him not catching passes, if only because this offense demands that you be able to catch the ball, since it's all about mismatches and stuff. If he's similar to Cole as a battering ram, sure, I'll admit to being wrong.
This shouldn't change them from drafting a FB.

And I'm also basing his presence in the passing game on whether or not
1) The Eagles change their philosophy for FBs, since it's just him at the position, and
2) A drafted cat won't see the field this year.

That means the Birds win 9 games next year instead of 8.

The offense may very well get magically better because they want it to. McNabb could be healthier, LJ will be healthy, the line could play better, Curtis could be better in his second year, Reggie could develop...
Or, they could play like shit (just like the same unit did last year).
Or Westbrook could get hurt in week 1 and they'd have to find a new way to manufacture his 175 yards of offense every game.
The best way to go is PROBABLY the way the Spuds is leaning here...
- Find index fingers.
- Stick firmly in ears.
- Hum loudly.
- Wish and pray the same plan with the same personnel (which suffered almost no injuries last year) will suddenly get better without help.
Hoo. Ray.

fdallas, I get your point, but I wouldn't say the Eagles offense suffered almost no injuries last year.
McNabb
L.J. Smith
Andrews,
Tra Thomas (Williams) what's his name? was out for a game I think.
Wasn't Runyan playing hurt for a while? or was that the year before?
I thought Kevin Kurtis was less than 100% a game or two or was it Reggie Brown?
Damn, I just think i remember games when offensive players played hurt.

They suffered some injuries. Westbrook missed a game, McNabb missed a couple, Tra missed most of one, LJ was never right, and there were guys who were banged up.
I just don't think it was bad enough where you could blame injuries.
There were times in years past where they lost McNabb for 6 games, missed Westbrook for 3 games, lost offensive linemen for the season, etc.

I got two words for you... Winston Justice... Tra's one game he missed hurt the team more than just a loss to the Giants, it was a crushing ego shot to the whole team. I do not blame WJ for the whole debacle but after that game Tra came back, but was he really healthy??? I doubt it, I think he played hurt a lot. the same thing with Runyan, a broken tailbone is painful and to have to bend over like an OT has to would be brutal... the O-linbe played hurt because IMO they didn't trust the depth behind them to be able to fill in without another mauling of the QB...

Jones says Eagles among teams interested in his services
By JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO
Philadelphia Daily News
Kevin Jones says he wouldn't mind playing next season for the Eagles, the team he was a fan of during his youth in Chester. The 6-1, 230-pound, 4-year NFL running back and former Cardinal O'Hara High star was released by the Detroit Lions on Thursday, opening up plenty of options for next season.
Two hours after the Lions' release was made public, 12 teams showed interest, according to Jones, including the Eagles.
"I can't say that I knew the Lions were going to make this move and release me, but I always felt in my heart that I wouldn't be a Detroit Lion for my whole career, I don't know where it came from, but it was just a feeling I always had," said Jones, who was drafted 30th overall by Detroit in 2004 after his junior season at Virginia Tech.
"When the Lions drafted me, it came as a big shock, because they weren't that much in the picture. It wasn't my dream situation. It would be a dream, however, to play for the Eagles. Going back to Philly, with all my relatives and friends back there, that's home to me. Chester will always be home to me. I have a real support system there in Philadelphia. Playing for the Eagles would be great."
Perosonally I'd like this signing I think he could/would take a lot of the between the takle stuff #36 does now and he might be more successful running behind the Eagles line...

I would assume this basically comes down to his health.
If he signs with the Eagles, he had better not even dream of moving back to Chester. Of course, at this rate, he might be safer in Chester than he would be in Philly.

it seems to be a widely accepted fact that McNabb cannot and hasn't learned how to throw a fade in the end zone.
...which is ironic given how integral "fade" is to the rest of his game...

darrell jackson anyone ??
released by the niners after they signed isaac bruce and bryant johnson.
age 29 to start the season. #'s were ok last yr, but in his final 4 games when he got healthier he had 17 catches for about 10 ypc and 2 TD's.
as long as he doesnt cost a lot or require a LTC, he would be an upgrade to the current WR's if they couldnt pull off one of these trades for a big name.
in a 3-wide package, he would command a safety at least shading to his side a bit, opening up possibilities for curtis in the slot, or hopefully a healthy LJ.

DJ Hackett is much better than Jackson and plays virtually the same type of game, which, ironically, is the same game that White Lightning brings to the table (only he does it better). Simply put, there's no upgrade available for them at wideout right now.

Klecko is an Eagle? Where? I am not finding it.
I am okay if they sign even an average wide receiver if it is also an upgrade on special teams. Special teams was sorry last year, even without counting the lack of a return game.
