I have no idea what kind of player he'll be. I'm hopeful, but have no clue. However, from the game interview of his dad last year, the things we've learned about him over the last year, and the articles below, I just get the overwhelming feeling that he "gets it".
He's going to have a completely different psyche than McNabb for a million different reasons, but in a lot of ways he's just a breath of fresh air and seems like he's going to be a much better leader than McNabb (again, if he can play). This isn't anything against Supah, but being a superior, elite athlete your entire life probably leads to a little bit of separation from the crowd. I think some of the guys who are a little less talented or not quite as revered have the opportunity to really connect with the other players on the team better and if you look at some of the great leaders of all time (Montana and Brady come to mind) they were of that ilk...more like solid football players than all-world talents.
In the second article below, I think these are the kind of things that will no doubt be popular with the veterans. linc

Not trying to dampen the enthusiasm for the future because after all, it's all about THE FUTURE....but let's see how he handles criticism when he's finally in the crosshairs.
Don't get me wrong. I agree that the guy seems to have a solid character, but people said the same thing about McNabb, too.

For better or for worse, he plays this year, since we know Mr. Glass hasn't played a full year in 3 years. From there we'll know if he's the future, or the future Bobby Hoying.
Also not trying to be a wet blanket, but what he says will either be enhanced or undercut by how he performs.

FD, glad you posted these.
I was readin the 1st online at lunch and wanted to get something goin bout this kid.
NOT AN EMBESQUE "Should Kolb Start?" Thread, certainly not.
But man, I was saying that it was nothin more than a sense last yr, but that this kid is goin to bring a totally diferent attitude to the QB position and one that I think will unite the fanbase here in town.
Think about it----
Who was the last QB that this town really felt almost unanimously positive about?
Jaws got booed on an individual game basis but he wasnt HATED, Id say he was the last QB here who really had a large majority behind him (tho his booings were the worst, thats because...)
Randall had the flat out biggots against him. All the veiled "He cant read a D" when they really meant "A Black guy cant be smart enuff to play QB" or "He's just an athlete". So, plenty of polarization there BEFORE he went all wacko and gave people some reasons to be anti- 12.
Peete? Please. See above, plus he was a dork.
Detmers? nope, neither. Nobody really felt they were the answer and so there wasnt ever a groundswell of good will behind eitehr, add Hoying to that mix after you weathered that 1st storm of HoyingMania.
McNabbulous? We neednt get into that here.
Sadly Garcia and his little stint here *(which Im not goin to count as it was only in reserve and for less than a yr) enjoyed the biggest swell of support.
I think Kolb gets it. I think there's no superstar diva attitude.
No air of "Im above critique".
No insecurity betraying his comments to the press, which manifests itself in constant public reaffirmation that he's the leader of the team etc.
I think he wants to get in there and be 1 of the guys and I think he honestly gets it. Perfect thread title FD.
I said this last pre-season, and I'll say it again- NOT IN ABILITY but in demeanor, he reminds me of Favre. AGAIN- I AM NOT COMPARING THE TWO IN SKILLS OR FORCAST SUCCESS ETC.
Just a good ol' guy who comes to play and is a student of the game.
No primadona attitude.
No Gold tipped shoelaces.

Another thing, Seth - there wasn't much support for the other guys (aside from Hoy-yoy-yoy-ing) because they weren't seen as anything other than stopgaps.
Sadly Garcia and his little stint here *(which Im not goin to count as it was only in reserve and for less than a yr) enjoyed the biggest swell of support.
Aside from the obvious allegory to the gayborhood, Garcia was everything that we hadn't seen in this team since, well, whenever. He had an attitude, and he didn't say "my bad" with a smile when he screwed up.
You said Reid's Birds have been boring. Garcia was the first breath of fresh air we've seen since being exposed to the Mahes and Considines of the world.

I get the Favre comparison in terms of how he's dealt with the press so far and his being a "man of the people" among the other players.
Whoever said it earlier, it's definitely easy to be as frank and comfortable with the media when he's not being criticized and we have absolutely NO CLUE if he can really play.
What I'll say, and I've long felt this way, is I believe part of McNabb's problem is an inability to articulate himself. I don't know if he's stupid, but when he speaks his mixes metaphors, says things incorrectly, and generally has a tough time choosing his words. I think that (along with FB sheltering him too much) leads to a general fear...a fear of saying the wrong thing, a fear of saying something that can be twisted around, a fear of sounding stupid. That fear extends to the field, too, but in a totally different way.
He's afraid to throw INTs (which is good), but is part of the problem when he can't find someone open. He never thinks there is enough separation. His fear of being pigeonholed as a running QB is another one.
Great player overall, which allows us to have thew amount of time to nitpik on these things, but I get a totally different sense from Kolb. Serious about work, but comfortable in his own skin.
With McNabb, it's almost the opposite. He smiles all day long on the field and looks like he's being led to slaughter out in front of the media.

I should also add this note about Syracuse Communications graduate, McNabb: When he did NFL Live a couple years ago at the Super Bowl (as a panel member), he was EXCELLENT. If he feels like getting into that career, he'll excel at it.
Maybe he's just like Anchorman and is fine as long as he's reading every word from the prompter.

If by "character guy" you mean "he doesn't do lines of blow off of strippers' asses or rapes handicapped schoolgirls," that's fine, but in my world, a whiny bitch is a poor leader and not a "character guy."

See, I separate character and leadership completely.
Kevin Curtis has great character, but he's not exactly Hines Ward in the leadership department.
I'll definitely agree McNabb is an average leader. I think he's a decent field general, but I don't get the impression he's out having beers with the guys in the off-season and being named best man in any of their weddings.
I think they like him well enough, but he's just so closed off, he doesn't seem to get close with the other players.

"I think they like him well enough, but he's just so closed off, he doesn't seem to get close with the other players."
I disagree. I think the other players look at him like most of the Flyers looked at Lindros. Nice enough guy, tries a little too hard to be liked, not one of us. Tolerated because he's the team's mealticket, but not a guy you spend time with if you don't have to.
Then again, I've spent as much time in the Bird's locker room as I have on the MIR Space Station.
