i agree with the comparison to randle-el.
if curtis misses 4 gms or more, i think its more like 45-50 catches.

In the interest of fairness Jules, Desean, while consider a smaller type WR (like Randle-El) he was regarded as a much better prospect.
I think the Harrison comparison is a good one

The short passes in the flat on 3rd and long scenario that Jules mentioned is exactly why I think Jackson will have 60 catches.

Ok, time for this frontrunning fan to put the Phils on- eagerly await F-D's expectations on Desean numbers wise
Right. I'm sure you're on the edge of your seat.
I won't believe the Eagles will use him the way they should until I see it with my own eyes. However, he looks liek the best WR on the roster to me (and that includes Curtis). I'm sure he doesn't know the playbook as well and there may be some things he'll struggle with (some routes, getting off the jam, etc.), but I'm just extremely impressed with his talent.
I think he SHOULD have no fewer than 60 catches. 3-4 grabs per game should be easily doable (again, provided he's healthy). The real question is why would you limit it if you're the Eagles? If he's worthy of starting and he's open/productive enough for 10 catches a game, I hope they don't stick to some regimented bullshit and stick him on the bench behind inferior receievers.
BTW, on a somewhat related note, where are the Culley bashers? Did he suddenly get a clue about coaching or did the Eagles finally draft a WR with better than average talent?

Give me a show of hands for anyone that has a Fathead wall graphic of Billy McMullen in their rec-room.
Yea', ... me too.

I think they were recalled...damned hands just wouldn't stick.

Anyone who buys a Fathead should hang it in their enclosed garage (with the car engine running).
JAckson will make his biggest impact in the return game, IMO.

I think Harrison surpassed 60 as well, if I'm not mistaken
64/836/8 in 1996
Not bad for a rookie. Then again, Jim Harbaugh was still actually a half-decent QB and they still had Marshall Faulk.
For some reason, I still remember that Thursday night game his rookie year against the Eagles where he scored a TD on a pass from Paul Justin.
I think worst-case scenario, DeSean will be another Allen Rossum-type.

His health over the 16 game season, and
his grasp of the playbook.

Far more realistic for him to have 35-45 catches. I think he's more Randle El than he is Colston. He'll probably have a high YPC and pretty good YAC.
Colston: 6'5" 225
Jackson: 5'10" 175
I'm assuming people are comparing the two in terms of rookie year expectations as opposed to style.
I wouldn't mind having the next Antwaan Randle-El on the team. Give the team the game of his life in the Super Bowl and kills the Redskins' cap the next six years. I'm all for it.

An article about DeSean's confidence/cockiness, with this delightful quote from unhappy camper, Sir Lito Sheppard:
“He’s just getting his personality a little bit earlier than some dudes,” cornerback Lito Sheppard said. “It’s not like he has a top-notch vet receiver over here to tell him to be quiet or anything. So why not?”
He's not wrong, but he's certainly not worried about offending his teammates on the other side of the ball.
Yo, click it

I realize that people on this site try to - shall we say - temper expectations, but Antwaan Randle-El?
Here's the difference between the two: ARE is an athlete first and a football player second, while Desean is a football player first and an athelete second. In other words, this guys simply knows how to be a receiver: how to set up defenders, how to run routes, how to take a hit, etc. And on top of all that, he's got rediculous quicks and moves on moves.
Now I realize this is just preseason and he's still undersized etc. etc. - but when's the last time a rookie's come in here and done the things he's done?

Durability, Durability, Durability..............
The kid seems to have the talent to be a top WR, but as we all know, that is only one piece of the puzzle. He is small, will play in the middle and he will be pulling double duty. Can he be effective nicked up or play hurt?
If so, 60 catches is very reasonable.

the more i think about that quote, the more hilarious/fucked up it seems.
it's like he not only said the other receivers aren't very good, but just as clear was the message that they don't even deserve the respect of a rookie.
"normally, a guy doesn't get his personality this quick. but really, it's not he's gonna listen to any of the bags of shit we have at receiver, so fuck it, ya know?"

I guess he feels comfortable because neither of the "veterans" could actually chase him down right now.
Seriously, it's a big "fuck you" to your teamates. I think it's absolutely accurate, but it's the same as one of the WRs last year saying:
"Of course they are going to throw on our secondary...none of those guys can seem to stay on the field and they can't buy a pick, so why wouldn't the opposing offense go bombs away?"
