how long before the vikings accept the fact the tavarious jackson ain't the guy?

it amazes me how in such a cut-throat business, qb's are given so much longer a look than is necessary to determine they can't play.

How long before they realize that Gus Frerotte isn't the answer, either?

QB play is at such a premium in the NFL these days. I mean, look at the KC/Oak game. They could've brought out Elvis Grbac and Rich Gannon and it wouldn't have been this bad.

Jackson is terrible. He's single handedly murdering that team.

I think there's already rumors of him being replaced by Gus Frerotte.

QBs are more prone to failure in their first year than any other position. I guess they saw enought flashes in him last year to give him a go this year. If they drafted another guy they'd still have to suffer through his growing pains wait and see if HE pans out. They could try free agency but all you'll get is a career backup or former starter on the downslope.

I can't believe Gus Frerotte is still cashing an NFL paycheck

zak, the thing is, they have such a strong team besides the qb that they would have been better served doing whatever they could to pry a backup (someone like kerry collins or garcia) and taking their chances.

at least have someone like that on the roster before the season began.

WFAN is saying he'll start vs. the Panthers. Desperation, for sure.

I think there had to be better options. Pennington would have been a huge upgrade, but there were probably better players than that available.

bass just stole my thunder. not only is he probably availabe now, but i would guess he was during the off season, too, what with all the contract squabbling that went on. and, of course, he's a WC guy.

as tenuous a starting qb as you can have, and no favorite of gruden, who loves collecting qb's. i'm just throwing his name out there, not saying he was the guy they should have targeted.

I didn't hear any rumors that his job was in jeopardy. They won 10 games last year.

who, f-d?

I think Pennington would have been a gret fit. You'd ideally want someone with a bigger arm, but in terms of managing a game and not having to deal with any wind in the dome, I think he could have been an asset. They ant to run the ball 40 times per game and have a QB who won't kill them...I think he could have been good in that role.

There wer some rumblings...it might have started when Gruden became irritated with Garcia's contract issues.

No secret that he and Gruden are at odds, publically b/c they didn't sign Garcia long-term.

Privately, Garcia probably threw a pass at Gruden. Take that at your own risk.

I know they were at odds but didn't hear anything about him not being the starter, which would explain why he wasn't traded. But I don't pay much attention to Bucs rumors.

I think Pennington would have been a great fit.

Yeah, but his noodle-arm doesn't help them too much - teams would be stacking 8 in the box and not being afraid of being beaten over the top. I guess that's the only real advantage Jackson offered.

Not disagreeing with you (and he would've fit better there than in Miami), but it's not as if Minny regains their SB contender status if they would've added him.

Yah, I'm not saying Pennington to the Vikes is exactly Montana to the Chiefs, but everyone is putting 8 or 9 men in the box anyway. At least Pennington could complete some passes for first downs facing 2 or 3 guys in coverage.

A certain former Eagle QB will make a visit to the Vikes. He was a "one suit wonder" according to a Monday Night "conversation" on ESPN.

He would buy one suit for the season and that was all he would take with him on road trips.

Trivia ? of the day.. Childress really liked this guy....
