My God.

The real insanity here is that T.O. had everything he could have ever wanted on the Eagles-- a devoutly worshiping fanbase and zero competition for the football. Then he threw it all away...and now everything will only get worse for him as Roy Williams gets more and more integrated into their offense.

We should start a suicide pool on him. I think he'll probably off himself (successfully this time) before his contract ends.

Fred throwing T.O. under the bus...... For shame...

T.O. is a self serving bitch and I hope he does "off himself" and save us from another round of "drive way segways."

The guy has supreme talent but throws it all away when he opens his mouth... If he could just STFU and play he would be in the same elite group as Jerry Rice... IMHO of course

Crazy article.

A current Cowboys player compared Owens' behavior to that which led to problems with his former quarterbacks, Jeff Garcia in San Francisco and Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia. Those failed relationships and problems with the head coaches and other teammates led to Owens' exile from those teams and made him available to Dallas owner Jerry Jones in 2006.

"He's insecure about it,'' the player said of Owens. "The thing that bothers me more than anything about this problem is that it's always something with him -- San Fran, Philly and here, always something. And he brings other people into it. You know, he talks to Sam Hurd and Roy Williams, who just got here and doesn't really know these guys. T.O. talks to him and so now he probably thinks Witten politics with Tony for the ball.

What player would say, "politics with Tony for the ball?" Certainly not Pacman. I thought it might be Marion Barber.

"I can't throw it and catch it,'' Owens said.

TO tore a page out of Keyshawnisms. Although, he paraphrased the "Keyshawn can't throw to hisself"....yes, Maestro.

Jules-

Apparently Owens got enough of Patrick Crayton' and Roy Williams' ears that they had T.O.'s back in the offensive meeting with Jason Garrett. They echoed what Owens said about needing the ball spread around more, i.e. less balls to Witten.

Eh...Patrick Crayton isn't getting any balls because, well, he's their 4th receiving option (5th if you include BArber).

Roy Williams isn't getting any balls because he doesn't know the offense, came there in the middle of the season, and is the 3rd or 4th receiving option.

It looks to me that Williams is the same guy he was in Detroit...not a game changer. Maybe he'll become that guy later in his career, but it's shocking how far he's fallen. He appeared to be an absolute monster his rookie year and put up a 1,300 yard season a couple years later, but he doesn't scare anyone right now. He's drawing the Joselio Hansens of the world and can't get open.

Witten, by contrast, is open constantly and drops nothing. I'd be going to him to.

With Owens, it seems like a coverage thing. Teams are doubling him and singling up Witten. Those are your two guys in the passing game and you'd have to be a retard to force it to the guy who's double covered.

Owens has been double covered his whole career.

Using that as an excuse is off the mark.

The fact is, he's been getting targeted more than anyone, so that point is moot anyway.

I think what Owens is really saying is that he feels stale in this offense. If I were the Jason Garrett, I'd be start using Owens at tailback.

Then he could touch the ball 30 times a game.

You're mostly right, but he hasn't had the best TE in football running underneath for most of his career, either. It's one thing to force it to Owens when Tai Street or Todd Pinkston is on the other side, but it's another when you've got Witten running free.

FB, I also have to imagine Garrett (in general) likes to use the TE a lot in the gameplan. Not only does he have a truly great one, but he watched Aikman sneakily carve up the field with TEs for most of his careeer while everyone talked about the triplets.

So f-d, you are Jason Garrett this week.

Would you throw the ball to T.O. to placate him, or do you freeze him out to speed up what is inevitable?

Funny how that worked out, isn't it? You can change teams but can't change the player. I seem to recall some people going absolute ape shit over this deal and making outlandish claims like "the QB puts the ball on target, Williams will produce. BOOK IT."

oh, how foolish they look now....

I do whatever I have to to win. To me, with the way Romo is playing right now and their season on the line, I'm running the shit out of the ball with Barber/Choice and using Witten more than Owens because I think the Giants can scheme to take away Owens, but they have no one capable of handling Witten.

Now, if they start shifting coverage to Witten and leave T.O. one on one with Aaron Ross, I'm letting Owens eat.

T.O.'s feelings wouldn't come into play simply because they don't have any room for error with their record and games remaining.

I think you judge the move on next year and the year after, as opposed to this season.

Even though he's looked like a dog out there, I think he'll be more effective when he has the system down and he's more of a primary weapon.

I really do like Williams as a player, but he's been such a shit player for so long now, you wondr what's going on.

He might just be the kind of player you have to run the passing offense through in order to get the most out of him. You have guys like that who don't produce unless you dictate they will produce and you have the other kind of guys (like Lance Moore, for instance) who thrive when the gameplan is for everyone else and they just keep getting open.

for any other team, maybe you wait until next year to judge but not the cowboys. they pushed all their chips to the center of the table thinking he would be a key ingredient to a SB run.

i like the IDEA of Williams as a player, but the reality is, he has done very little to warrant the man crushes that some people on the LEVEL have on him. like that theory that "now he has a good QB and he's on a good team, he will produce," - it's a load of shit. you either make plays or you don't. Williams just doesn't make plays.
for whatever reason, people are eager to make excuses as to why Williams is what he is and talk about his potential. the fact is, he is a less-than-average WR who just happens to be a physical specimen.

Exactly.

What's he been there- a month? Five games?

And he's admittedly the 4th option?

Boy do some people jump the gun.

I agree with both of you, really. I'm taking a wait and see approach, but his fall from Grace is puzzling.

He was the Lions #3 WR by the end of the last season and CJ passed him this year as the undisputed #1. No one else had trouble producing as a WR in Detroit despite their awfulness over the last couple years.

I still think that he would be a great WR if given the T.O. treatment in Philly...run the pass game through him, give him a chance to win a reception when covered, let him catch/run underneath.

I think he doesn't get enough separation to the point where the QB feels compelled to throw to him unless the ball is designed to go to him. I also think he quits on plays.

I do think he's talented, though. When he was a rookie and the Eagles played the Lions in Detroit, I remember him throwing defensive backs around with one arm, carrying defenders, and generally looking like a man-child. That was his 3rd NFL game and he had 9 catches, 135 yards, and 2 TDs against a pretty good defense.

Maybe I carry too much of that game with me when I think about what kind of player he is. Hell...I think he's played the Eagles 2 times and put up career games both times, so my perspective definitely could be skewed.
