When do they normally get the money? September?

that's what i last heard, which is why i'm saying the appeals dragging out for some months won't affect their stance. they can play chicken

That's completely plausible (that they get paid in September), but what I'm saying is the reason many people thought the owners held a trump card is once the games start, the players will notice their checks aren't coming in, but the owners will still be getting their money.

Essentially, the players would be first to cave because they would be feeling it in their wallets first.

Now, if the owners are facing the same reality (huge liabilities and no money coming), I think there's more incentive for them to get a deal done quickly.

Nobody (players or owners) get paid in the offseason, other than small workout bonuses, so neither side is really going to feel the lockout until September, regardless (far as I understand)

yes, that's all i meant to address, that this appeals process wasn't going to affect the owners' stance right now

I think I remember him being one of the guys they were talking about the Packers having to unload because of how his contract was structured, something rediculous like him getting 8 figures next season.

He'll get paid, and produce, wherever he lands.

If he's already in negotiations with the Packer, why didn't they just restructure the existing deal?

It seems weird. Apparently they are going to re-sign him today, but I don't understand why they had to do it the way they did.

The only thing that makes sense was he was playing hardball knowing they had to guarantee his salary in 2011 if they didn't so something by midnight tonight ad tried to flip the script (only giving him 24 hours to field offers for other teams), but if he was driving such a hard bargain, you'd figure he'd actually shop himself rather than just signing back with them.

When you're getting dissed by Tim Hasselbeck, whom Reno Mahe could say he had a better NFL career than, then you know it's bad (per PFT):

Tim Hasselbeck also doesn’t think the Seahawks would do any better by going after players like Carson Palmer or Marc Bulger. He said Palmer wouldn’t be an upgrade. “Show me the tape,” he said via Mike Sando of ESPN.com.

As for Bulger, well: “Marc Bulger retired two years ago. He just doesn’t know it,” Hasselbeck said.

There's an update on the bottom of Seth's article, apparently Vick or the Eagles were never contacted about the interview?

I guess if you give 1.5 billion to the NFL you can just make up news now.

What makes that different from anything else ESPN does? Can't fill all that air with the Women's Rock-Paper-Scissors World Championships from Des Moines, Iowa.

The Eagles seem awful sensitive lately (from their web site):

"Eagles Strongly Dismiss ESPN Claim Regarding Vick

Quarterback Michael Vick is in Atlantic City, N.J. today to accept the Bert Bell Award from the Maxwell Football Club for being named the NFL's player of the year.

Apparently, during the time Vick was at a press conference to talk about the award he was also scheduled to appear on ESPN's First Take. When it was evident that Vick was not going to be able to do the interview on First Take, the show took to its Facebook page to claim that the Eagles pulled Vick from doing the interview.

To say the least, that is an outright lie.

Eagles Director of Media Relations Derek Boyko released the following statement claiming that neither the Eagles nor Vick ever knew that the interview was even scheduled.

"Lou Tilley from the Maxwell Football Club confirmed an interview on ESPN with Michael Vick without ever asking Michael Vick, me or any representative of Vick. Michael or the Eagles never canceled. We were never asked in advance."

Head coach Andy Reid is also being honored by the Maxwell Football Club with the Greasy Neale Award for the NFL's coach of the year."

I'm sensitive that Reid's getting a CotY award.

Anyway, I don't know why they're so anal about this.

Noteworthy add-on, ... "What Andy Reid has done is remarkable, especially in light of the salary cap and free agency and the inability to maintain continuity. What I like most about him is he's level headed. It doesn't concern him who gets the credit. He's not concerned with puffery. His teams are sound fundamentally, and most important, he picked a great coaching staff for them. I admire the man." - Hall of Fame Coach Marv Levy on PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Good stuff. Congrats coach.

Regarding M. Vick's non-participation of interviews, ... personally I don't believe there is a real story to be told. It's understandable when you excuse yourself from one of the world's most influencial women in television there will be a reaction. Media jumped on it and attempted to make a full blown story out of the event.

The thought that crosses my mind is the distractions outside of football is typically what has gotten Vick in trouble. Keep Vick focused on football, ... shield Vick from the temptation of trouble thus avoiding issues.

The problem I have with that Dean is that part of his 'redemption story' we're being fed is that he's supposed to now come out and champion anti-animal abuse issues and be another celebrity example of "I messed up, don't do what I did" for the kids. Oprah, ESPN, these are platforms where the Eagles, his PR people etc can say, "These are the only questions that he'll talk about", script him and keep him focused as that kind of person. Pulling him from Oprah makes it look bad in that he's not ready to do that level of public spearheading animal rights.

I agree, let the guy play ball and leave him alone, keep the disractions down but this would be the reason for concern I believe.

It's amazing how one bad choice (well, a series of bad choices) can reduce a man from being on top of the world to a shell of his former self, trying to reclaim former glory in the name of paying his debts.

How does one leave their 8 month pregnant wife for what people might consider a HPoA?
