The latest on Colts QB Peyton Manning. Jake Query, a radio host on WNDE in
Indianapolis is reporting that sources are telling him that Peyton Manning
is out for the year.

Query posted this on his twitter feed today:

"What I (Query) said: A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the
season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined"

Query then followed that with: "I (Query) was also told the 3rd procedure has
taken place, either Sun or Monday."

Well the Colts are done if that's the case.

One less team for the Pats to worry about

Oddly I feel better about having Clark now, Collins will probably use him more in dump off situations than the 3-4 WR's they're used to.

You shouldnt'. Manning used to hit him 30 yards down the field on the dead run when Wayne and Co. took care of the safeties. I don't think PopGun Collins will be doing that too often.

It's PPC so he may get more passes spread his way? Collins loves his TE's.

But yeah, yardage will still be hurt I'd imagine, but I'm not expecting too much of a drop off.

Manning has cervical fusion surgery today and is expected to be out for 2-3 months. Ouch.

That's like the season right? Can't practice for 2-3 months? He won't be able to get his timing down to play in a few weeks and be effective, may as well just shut him down, let him get correct and burn the season.

I don't know why the Saints hired Andy Reid to call plays in crucial situations last night.

On the 4th and Inches in the red zone, he lined them up in a tight running formation and then had Brees attempt to pass. Brees had only one or two targets out of this formation and was susceptible to the blitz, getting the crap kicked out of him. Passing here was not a bad idea, but why not use your strength (your 8 million wide receivers) in a spread formation? After all, you only need to move a couple of inches in a quick screen.

And on the last play of the game, everyone and their brother knew they'd be running up the middle. You are not going to beat those athletic, steroid-enhanced linebackers by attempting to jump over the top. The Saints had almost no shot at winning with that play.

Yeah, I was thinking Reid was running the offense last night.

4th and 1 and you pass when you should do a run (I mean, it was less than a yard - they could've run a QB sneak).
1st and goal with the game on the line and the defense totally sold on the run. Instead of handing it off to a rookie (who got stopped on a similar short yardage play earlier from just plowing forward), he should've called PA and someone would've been wide open. Or Brees himself could've Brees his way into the end zone. Besides, it's tough to go back to your guys and say "we need one yard" when you didn't have confidence in them to get that one yard just earlier.

The only thing I can think of what Payton thought the DLine was tired and easily susceptible to a run up the middle, but that would only have me think MORE that a pass would be the way to go, since the backers would probably come up to support the line.

Guess we know outsmarting yourself isn't limited to the Fat Man.

But if you jump, you're not going against defensive linemen. You're taking on linebackers and safeties.

KB, the difference is that the elite coaches have a brainfart every once in a while, but Reid has a few of them weekly.

A tweet from IncarceratedBob states that the Colts have reached out and will "monitor" Brett Favre.

That would be a disaster on so many levels. If he thought Chilly was a moron, wait until he gets Jim Caldwell, the star of "Rich Kotite: The Next Generation".

Man, that would be hilarious to see Favre try to win with the Colts.

BTW, this article makes me really glad the Eagles didn't go after Plaxico. What a fucking baby! Poor thing never got a visit from Eli!

He thinks Coughlin should have stuck by him after he stupidly shot himself with an illegal firearm, and he uses Rex Ryan and Raheem Morris as examples? Umm..those coaches never had players dumb enough to shoot themselves with an illegal weapon.

This guy is as out-of-touch as it gets, which basically makes him an ideal professional athlete.

There are, but I think Reid is among the bigger "wtf" coaches in terms of play calling. Sean Payton would also be up there. I think it tends to work out more for the Saints, though, because Brees is so accurate. They had a 3rd and short earlier in the game that ended up being a long TD to Henderson. I was thinking "that's one of those calls you'd destroy a coach for if it didn't work".

Is that the dichotomy of an Andy Reid offense? It's been made to look better with guys like McNabb and Vick, but if you use an accurate QB who isn't as mobile, it's not as effective?

I mean, McCarthy would get skewered in Philly for calling so many passes in the 1st half, but Rodgers is so amazing that it doesn't matter. Reid does that and the QB isn't as accurate, so the playcalling looks worse by comparison.

I honestly don't care how an offense operates as long as it operates. If the Eagles throw the ball 50 times and look good doing it, that's great.

If McNabb was getting blown up and was 13 for 27 at the half with no TDs, that's when I'd just roll my eyes. There's never a plan B.

And Reid's right..it's a throwing league. It's just tough to consistently move the ball when that's your only plan and you have a sub 60% passer.
