In his freshman year of college in 2007, when Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the year in Judaism; a fast day that is the "Day of Atonement") fell on a Saturday, he fasted until an hour before the Big Ten Conference opener against Iowa started that night.[12][64][65] Carimi said, "Religion is a part of me, and I don't want to just say I'm Jewish. I actually do make sacrifices that I know are hard choices.”[64] At the 2011 NFL combine, when asked whether he would play on Yom Kippur in the NFL, he responded: "I already looked out over the next 15 years, and Yom Kippur doesn't fall on a Sunday."[66][67]

Not all about the team. Very, very selfish player

They get San Fran coming across the country so they should do well.

Except SF decided to stay in Ohio for the week. Smart move, IMO.

Eh, sounds like the owner wanted to go back home and brought the team with him to a college facility, so they'd get an edge in not having the travel lag but they'll be working out in a college facility instead of the team's.

That lack of travel lag is huge. If they flew back to SF and came back, I'd say there's no way the Eagles lose, even with the way they've played lately.

Still think the Eagles will win, but SF's got two really good guys in Davis and Gore that hit the Eagles' weaknesses. Wonder if we'll have Reid helping to make calls for Castillo as well.

Aaron Curry may be on the trade block. Seems as though he's struggled in the new scheme and isn't really suited to play on then strong side.

He hasn't been a complete bust. His numbers alone aren't awful, but they obviously don't tell the whole story.

At the same time, he's a 25 year old 2 years removed from being the #4 overall pick, he was asked to take a pay cut in the off-season, and he was just replaced in the starting line-up by a rookie, so he's obviously had issues.

The biggest sticking point may be his salary...$5M this year. That's a lot of coin to tie up on a player like him.

If you're truly "all in", though, you have to do something at LB and/or safety quickly. At safety you can almost fool yourself into thinking Jarrett or Allen will give you a boost later in the season as the former learns the D and the latter recovers from the ACL, but there is no light at the end of the tunnel at LB.

It's official, the Casey Mathews era at weakside backer is now over. He has been replaced in the starting lineup by Brian Rolle.

from jeff pearlman's new book on WP, "sweetness":

Back when Payton drove his own RV to Bears training camp, he used to load the rear of the vehicle with tanks of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. At nights and during breaks in the action, players sneaked into Payton's trailer, loaded the nitrous oxide into balloons, then carried them around while taking hits. The goofy laughter could be heard throughout the training facility.

Now retired, Payton turned to nitrous oxide more than ever. Large tanks occupied a corner of his garage, and he held a gas-filled balloon throughout portions of the day, taking joyous hits when the impulse struck.

that's getting after it.

Chris Gocong just signed a 3 year, $17 million extension with the Browns. Huh?

I know he's better suited for that defense, but it doesn't seem as though he'd done very much there, stats-wise.
Yo, click it

Gocong missed most of training camp with a neck stinger. But he has played every game once the season started. He shared a sack in the Miami game and added two quarterback hurries.

Heh, never thought a Mamula would be considered a stat

Didn't realize this at first, but Washington has St. Loo on the sched (which I think will be tough for them), plus a bye to think about how they extract revenge on Philly for that beatdown they put on them last year.

That might be an ugly, ugly game.

Cam Newton is for cereal.....I don't think I've ever seen this kind of performance (granted 4 games) from a rookie since Dan Marino.

Steve Smith was really being deprived of stats since the collapse of Delhomme. He's been putting up sick numbers at the start of this season.

Guess I'll cut NEAG off at the pass here and say Vick = GUTLESS

Why? B/c he decided to no longer do his radio show that he promoted before the season started. Yeah, it's not a HUGE issue, but it's not the big things that make you question character; it's always the little ones.

The only time he did his show was when they beat the Rams.

Pre-$100m Mike Vick = Mike Vick.

Post-$100m Mike Vick = Ron Mexico.

This won't get better as the team continues to rack up the Ls.

Anyone else get to see the end of Houston-Oakland today? That was crazy, with both teams doing their Eagle-esque best to blow the game before Schaub threw an INT in the endzone on the final play. It's hard to even recount the ridiculous penalties, the botched snap, Schaub gasping for air as he raced down the field to spike the ball, etc. Definitely watch the highlights on this one.

Couple of trades:

Derrick Mason goes from the Jets to Houston for a conditional draft pick.

LB Aaron Curry (was the #4 pick in the 09 draft) is going to Oakland for a 7th round pick in 2012 and a conditional pick in 2013. Eagles couldn't offer more than that?

I mean, yeesh - even if he's a bust, is he better than what's out there now?

Yet another example of how clueless this team truly is.

You guys must be joking. The Eagles don't even have any 7th round picks next year. And if you're suggesting they trade one of their three 6th round picks, you must be insane.
