Seth,
You're the only person I know who could watch Brett Farve steamroller his old team in the game before he turned 40, and pay attention to the fullback.
We want what we cannot have.

The Birds have 1, (FB) and he does some fine blocking/hitting, but yes- underutilized to date.

Eagles fullbacks not named Jon Ritchie have been pretty underutilized. I remember them running a lot more, and a lot more successfully, with Ritchie there.

THey've matched the rushing attempts in that Ritchie year, and matched the success, too. Before Ritchie, they a ran almost 100 times more (taking McNabb's rushes out of the equation for both years). They also ran more in 2006-2008

I just found this funny. It's not like the Chiefs are used to winning or should have expected to ve very good right away, but they are destroying Pioli and Haley.
Yo, click it

Chiefs
Raiders
Rams
Browns
I can't remember there being 4 such "easy win" teams in the same season as there are this year. Bucs are pretty close to that group, too. All of the above are absolutely disgraceful NFL teams and it seems like there are more teams like that this year than any other year in recent memory.

All 5 of those teams (including the Bucs) have a couple of things in common:
- Coaching turnover/bad coaches.
- Untalented or undertalented players at key positions (or in the Browns' case, most of them)).
You could even include the Lions and the Bills in that pack.
You've got a combination of overrated head coaches in charge of bad clubs, unproven coaches in charge of bad clubs, or bad coaches in charge of bad clubs. Looks like teams are looking for the unproven head coaches in hopes they can get someone for a bargain, rather than throw everything but the kitchen sink at someone like Schottenheimer, Dungy, or Cowher. Looking for the next Tomlin or even Reid. The issue is that those guys came from successful programs and had plans, and good QBs. What plan does Mangina have in Cleveland?
Never has the divide between bad teams and good teams been more apparent than this year. No wonder someone like Favre could come back and light it up - watching guys like Russell overthrow screen passes and Check-Down Trent complete 5 yard outs that turn into pick 6s is enough to make anyone nuts.

And then you look on the flip side, and you've got Indy and the Jets, where Indy's picked up where they left off (their coordinators and Manning are still there, so it's almost as if nothing's changed) and Ryan's got talent on that club and a very good defense.
But the bad teams just seem so much worse.

I think Lions are moving in the right direction with a good looking prospect at QB, decent prospect at RB, star WR, and a very good defensive coach.
I think they can contend for a playoff spot in a year or two provided Stafford grows. Who knows, though.

The Rams are absolutely the worst. Shutout twice this season. I don't remember any team being shut out twice in a single season.
They are actually far worse than the 0-16 Lions. Those guys were actually IN more than a few games.

They definitely look bad, but if you just look at the roster as opposed to results, they might be in better shape than the Chiefs.
I mean, at least they have Steven Jackson and a coach who SHOULD be able to make the defense passable over the next couple years. You can theoretically geta Kerry Colins type QB in there and get competitive on a team like that (again, if you fix the D and o-line).
In KC, they have an egomanic head coach who only cares about offense, a QB who might be a fraud, and a washed up RB.

Not only that, but their offensive line has been outclassed in back-to-back weeks, their defense is below average, and their receiving corps had a waiver-wire guy as their leading receiver in one game. And they bounced their GM last year, so it's going to take a while before Pioli pans out, and he's not going to fire his coach during that time.
They're going to be brutal for a LONG time.

How do you get a HC job anyway if you can say 'I coached Arizona's offense', which consisted of a HOF QB and two of the top receivers in the league?

Hoying's statistics are fantastic...
8 games (7 starts)
114/224
961 yards
0 TDs
9 INTs
Sacked 35 times
6 fumbles
45.6 QB rating
I know a 45.6 QB rating is awful, but what's the point of a rating system where those numbers don't give you a zero?
It's almost like you get 45 rating points for having the guts to show up.

Because you need a system that gives a value for less-than-zero ratings?

You need to give him credit for a couple of passes that weren't INTs.

I'm convinced that there will never be a team in Philadelphia worse than the 1998 Eagles. I'm not surprised that they lost 13 games. I'm surprised that they somehow actually managed to WIN three.
When I think of that year all I think about is the Thursday night game against the Rams when the play clock went out and they couldn't fix it. The whole country got to see that. Awesome.
As far as being an Eagles fan goes, 1998 was as bad as it gets.

Crabtree signs with 49ers and the Jets trade for Braylon Edwards.
(Fuck this trade! I need Cotchery to remain #1 target)

Looks like Cleveland wasn't big enough for Edwards and LeBron (not that Cleveland won't be big enough for LeBron anyway, but whatever). Have to wonder what the trade was.
Crabtree signing isn't surprising. He had no leverage, and the bluff of him going back into the draft would've lost him a ton of money (not that it would've mattered, because the 49ers would just trade his rights away before that happened).
He won't make a difference this year, and he's got a lot of work to do to clean up his image, not to mention get yelled at by Singletary.
