So yes, he can complain but no, the NFL has no rights to terminate his contract.

Don't think that's true - what happened with Pacman?

It's gotta be from one of those awkward red carpet lines where everyone shouts their name and they try to turn and uncomfortably smile for each photographer.

Our new staff photographer told me that photographer at the front of the line has the pivotal job of calling the celebrity by the right name because whatever they say gets repeated on down the line.

I saw that on Deadspin a couple days ago and I couldn't even understand how he was slamming Parcells.

He said somethign along the lines of "Parcells isn't worth a shit, but I love him".

I don't even know how to interpret that. In reality, it kind of seemed like Parcells WAS worth a shit and Jerrah did NOT love him.

I think he was saying "I don't have any bad feelings towards the guy, but the only reason I hired him as a coach was because I needed to in order to get the Ridiculo-dome built."

Wait, a drunk guy said something confusing?

It kind of makes sense, before Tuna the Cowboys were shit. They were the dying remains of team that had reached glory but didn't draft well and didn't manage players well. The didn't reload to keep the organization going, didn't find an eventual successor to Aikman or Smith, and had questions on Defense. Tuna came in, cleared up crap and stepped on Jones' toes. He resents that and probably always will.

The fact remains that the reason why the Cowboys got to where they were was because of Jones. They are where they are now because Tuna cleaned up the crap Jones let his team get to. So for Jones to say that Tuna is shit is more because Jones was resentful that he needed help.

I can only hope that eventually Jones degrades into Al Davis status.

Yo, click it

So Ben met with Goodell. Speculation has 2-4 years. This actually has a lot of details on the case so if you've just read headlines I recommend going through it all, and includes the 2 1sts with the Rams.

I think jettisoning him and Holmes in the same offseason would be a bit much. Plus, Ben is young, cool under pressure and has come up with timely throws over and over.

I think they (Tomlin and the Rooney clan) have to have the "come to Jesus" talk with him.

Personally it would be a panic move. Basically something to say to Ben, "Hey, we can rebuild without you." 2 firsts for Ben, moving him to a team that is crap and will be crap means that next years at best will be a mid round pick, would be the score that the Eagles never could get for McNabb.

Remember, the Steelers could grab Bradford for that, as well as the 1st in 2011 (or move that pick for maybe a 2nd in 2010?) and while he won't be at the same level as Ben now, he should be a solid guy to build around for years to come.

I don't think anything will come of this, but it has to shake Ben's comfort level a bit.

I apologize in advance for the length of this post, if those reading are not interested, please, just skip right past...it won't hurt my feelings...

As much as I hate to admit it, there is a lot of hear-say that floats around about Ben being an arrogant ass from persons supposedly close to the source - yes, the comments are of the rumor mill variety such as a co-worker who commented to me once..."I have a friend who told me that she worked with Ben at a photo shoot and he made crude comments about her cleavage" as well as his rumored bad attitude toward his employees at a bar he owns...etc...etc...and other such unsubstantiated tales of Inquirer Caliber News.

I didn't want to believe these things, because I just naturally want to think Ben is a nice guy...but the current bad press does seem to substantiate that if nothing else, he is a sleazy jerk who likes the ladies.

Still I must agree with those who continue to point out that NO CRIME was committed. I mean think about it...if this would have happened with anyone else, the chick likely would have just slunk off into the street...maybe a bit embarrassed and ashamed that she lifted her skirt for a total stranger regardless of his claim to fame...it appears she was most likely a willing, if somewhat reluctant accomplice who after the fact had second thoughts about her actions - perhaps because he unceremoniously dismissed her from his sight after he was "done" with her...or committed some other such demeaning attack on HER MORALS. In her statement to police that was released today, it stated she was uncomfortable with the situation, but it did not say that she claimed she was FORCED against her will, only that she said it "wasn't okay".

If he would have told her he loved her, asked for her phone number and promised to call her the next day would she have gone running to the police then? I seriously doubt it...

I myself can testify that I have "said no but meant yes" many times. Sure, you have second thoughts, don't want to be "caught" and all and wonder "what will he/my friends/my parents think of me..." but you REALLY WANT to do it, so you RELUCTANTLY let him have his way...and pretty soon, your moaning and groaning and pushing back...begging for more...

If she was so drunk that she was unable to take responsibility for her actions, (and the report verified that she was already drinking before she arrived at the bar), who is responsible for serving her underage? I haven't heard one word about the responsibility of the bar in this situation.

And I continue to hear over and over "morally wrong"..."NFL Standards of Conduct"...and such...

WHO's MORALS? Not everyone has the same sense of morality. If one's employer has a Conduct and Morals policy, then as an employee it is one's obligation to maintain these standards even if one personally disagrees with them. That is life.

I personally in general DO NOT agree with employers interfering in the private lives of its employees on ANY level - that is my opinion, however I acknowledge that I am likely in the minority...

What if I was unknowingly photographed at one of my spiritual events partially clothed? What if it ended up on the Web and my employer or licensing board viewed this as a violation of a morals or conduct clause? Could I be at risk for dismissal or worse, have my license revoked? Possibly.

I know the situations are not similar, I'm merely illustrating employer/employee rights and obligations - one certainly does NOT have to break the law to get into trouble at work, that is for certain. And Ben is in BIG trouble, regardless of his PERSONAL standards of conduct.

IMHO, as long as NO LAWS WERE BROKEN, Ben has the right to be a sleazy pussy hound if that is the life he chooses. It's nobody's business, in theory. But he makes it everyone's business by his obvious lack of discretion and the fact that he is a well-known personality as well as a representative of the NFL. As long as he chooses to be employed by the NFL, then he must abide by their rules. Some might not like this or agree with it, as it applies to the broader sense of personal rights, but freedom of choice also applies to our also our right to find alternate employment.

Please don't crucify me for the length of this post, I beg your pardon because I feel quite strongly about personal rights issues. For those with opposing views, my intention was not to offend, but merely to present an alternate perspective.

I hope I haven't pissed anybody off. Really.

The point the others are making is that this is a business above anything else and they could lose money because folks may say "They support rapists" or something. Because let's face it, if more facts and evidence were obtainable by the DA, Ben would be up on rape charges right now.

I don't want to condone what he does. I just hope that people's civil liberties are taken into consideration before Goodell's morality police start investigating how people brush their teeth.

... for a 2010 5th rounder.

Ginn's speed should make him a difference maker on a team like that, though I doubt he will ever be a legit WR threat. From a former 1st rounder, that seems like a steal. It's not like there are a ton of WR's in the draft.

Great move for San Fran, and I'm starting to wonder what the hell the dolphins are doing...

I think as a returner alone, with what he's shown, he's worth a 5th- honestly, and talking from specifically the Birds standpoint.

They're loaded at picks, and if they think Maclain will ever get better they're nuts.
Who else you puttin back there to return?

Jackson? No thanks.
He'll already be more at risk now that they're goin to (i assume) a more traditional WC Offense, incorporating slants that are based on timing patterns for YAC.

We'll see him go 'deep' far less, a) cos of what I just wrote above, the true WC suits Kolbs strengths (quick release, trust in his WRs to make the play, mastery from an intellect standpoint) and b) why play to Kolb's weakness- that being arm strength good enuff to really prove a true threat to hit a man waaaay down field in stride after he's beaten his guy by 5 yrds.

See, I see Jackson being just fine with the slants, if he can catch the passes without having to stop and turn because they're a yard or two off target like they have his previous two years, and they can get the timing so he's running, catches and continues to run, he'll get as much YPC and a lot more YAC as a result. I don't expect there to be more physical play, in fact I expect less hitting on him on the sidelines when his size can be a problem.

That said, a 5th for an elite return guy that can line up as a 4th WR and flat out burn corners with his speed makes Ginn a very viable weapon. Percy Harvin is kind of in the same role, though many people believe he can transfer over to WR. If he can't, then he'll be in the same boat Ginn is in.

Ask yourself if Harvin fails as a top 2 WR, would you still move a #5 for him? I think most teams would.
