heard this morning, again on the Mike & Mike show, that a reporter from SI somehow knows and is talking about the context of how the enitre "is your mom a prostitue?" came about... although Dez is denying it...
GM - so what did your dad do?
Dez - He was a pimp, and mom worked for him...
GM - Your mom was a prostitue?!?
Somehow I just don't see this story going away real soon...

I am just posting what I heard and read...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d817e2592&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
(sorry can't link)
Another twist came Friday when SI.com, citing unnamed sources, reported that Ireland asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute as a follow-up to other answers provided by the 21-year-old receiver.
The SI.com report cited an alleged exchange in which Bryant was asked what his father did for a living when the receiver was growing up, and he responded that his dad was a pimp. When Bryant was then asked what his mother did and answered that she worked for his dad, Ireland asked if she was a prostitute.
Asked about that report in the locker room Friday after practice, Bryant responded, "That was a lie."
Just my 2 cents, IF I were Bryant and the stuff SI reported wasn't true, then I would have my agent start a slander case, that's part of what an agent does protect the interests of his client... Although what Ireland asked may have been in very poor taste, for SI to report that his dad was a pimp and his mom was 1 of his working girls, IMO that is slander... if it's not true...
On a side note I can just imagine the warm fuzzy welcome that this entire situation is going to give lil Dezzy upon his first visit to the LINC...

that didn't work...
here's the link and another try...
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl
07:23 AM ET 05.03 | The Giants' first-rounder, Jason Pierre-Paul, drew a fair amount of attention on the field over the weekend. Several times, Pierre-Paul looked slow getting in and out of his stance and pushing off the line of scrimmage. He was often hunched over, seemingly winded, though he insisted he was only in pain. At one point, he was on his knees on the ground as the trainers sprayed him with water and applied a bandage to his lower back. [Tom] Coughlin, who has little tolerance for any injuries, seemed pleased that his new, 6-5, 270-pound defensive end fought through the pain and kept practicing.

I'm willing to bet that there's some middle ground with all of this, as there's always two sides of the story and then the truth. Like, maybe Ireland asked him something about his dad dressing well, and he went, "Yeah, he's a pimp!" referring to style rather than profession. Oddly I can't find anything about him anywhere outside of the bazillion articles talking about the SI/ESPN reports.
All that said, I'm unsure why it's such a big deal. Keyshawn admitted to having sold drugs HIMSELF to support his family, and was a #1 first overall selection. Not sure why Dez' background with his mother's conviction becomes any worse.

no one is saying dez' background is worse, the issue is the appropriateness of the question. ireland wasn't asking about dez personally, he was asking about his family. big difference.

I was referring to draft position with the above, in that Keyshawn was hands down the #1 overall even though he had a muddled background, while Dez fell dramatically.
Of course, times have changed and with Goodell in power it's likely teams are making character a much larger issue. Keyshawn also had a very good career and didn't really have much in the way of off the field issues (though he was a headache for teams at times), and I don't expect Dez having anything different in that regards.
I still think this is coming down to one guy not being prepped for the interview by his college because of the suspension, and coming from the street where his interviewer has probably never even seen bubble gum stains on concrete before. I also wonder how a team can possibly consider spending dozens of millions of dollars on a player and not record the interviews. I mean, look at what NASA puts interviewees through, they aren't costing millions of dollars a year like some of these players. You'd think they'd of recorded these things and clear it all up.

i don't think it's just goddell's influence. i mean, moss fell hard because of character issues, too. i think teams are making it a bigger deal for economic reasons as much as anything. they've seen too many recent instances of players' sabotaging their careers with bad behavior.
the thing with dez was not really that he came from a bad home, but that he had serious character questions while in college (not sure if that was the case with keyshawn). i think that's what tied it all together. in fact, as you probably know, a lot of people think the question wasn't really about his mom's history, but how he would handle the question in light of those character issues.

Clinton Portis on Lavar Arrington
"I lost a lot of respect for LaVar at that moment, speaking at Sean's funeral," Portis told Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan. "To get up, I really thought that was . . . I don't know what you call that. LaVar ain't know Sean like that. . . . I remember me and Sean was going to jump LaVar, you know, for throwing pie at Sean's face his rookie year, and trying to haze Sean, and be the tough guy. He felt like it was a joke. We didn't like that sh-t. For all the attention LaVar claim, and that him and Sean was cool -- they wasn't cool. . . . Sometime, people should stop. . . . I don't think you should do that. If you cool with somebody, or you know somebody, you knew 'em. Don't go and portray, set out an image like 'this is your buddy, this is your pal' like you all hung, when y'all really didn't. I don't think that's fair man."

Man, that's a powerful paragraph. I don't even know where to start.
I agree with Clinton in the sense that if I ain't know someone, I don't portray or set out an image like "this is my buddy".
Will that translate into wins? I sure expect it to do so.

He might be in some deep shit...
MONTEBELLO — Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was arrested in a Rockland hotel overnight and charged with raping a 15-year-old girl, police said.
The 51-year-old former linebacker for the New York Giants was taken into custody by Ramapo police. He was being held in the town jail with an arraignment in Town Court scheduled for this afternoon.
He was charged with third-degree rape, a charge that involves having intercourse with a minor. The victim was reportedly beaten during the attack.
The crime took place at the Holiday Inn of Suffern, located in Montebello, according to Ramapo police Detective Lt. Brad Weidel.
Taylor, who has a home in New Jersey, told police he was a resident of Pembroke, Fla. He has frequently played golf in Rockland.
The football legend has a long history of drug abuse and other run-ins with the law.
He tested positive for cocaine several times during his NFL career and has been arrested for buying cocaine from undercover police officers.
