NFN, but even if all he does is pitch in on goal line, 4th and 1's and special teams, he'll do a better job than Mays was doing, and he can fire up the special teams by beating the crap out of Chris Clemons.

Clearly, Trotter is a disciple of the f-dallas School of Public Relations, where honesty is the worst policy.

If he can't play they'll know it when he's in the game. Gaither beat Trotter out two years ago, and won't be losing his job.
I disagree he can't pump guys up on the sideline. He can talk up dudes when the offense is on the field, when groups and when guys come off the field after a bad play he can get on them. Most importantly in short yardage, when teams really need to bring everything they have, he can get on the field.
I'd love to hear what alterinative is out there though, and compare it to Trotter. However, you also need to take into account a younger player would have to learn the system. The 4-6 really isn't something a lot of teams use, and Trotter could basically walk in and work it if needed.

Seth
Byron Evans was the man back in the day when the Eagles D was the BEST in the NFL. One of my favorite Eagles. Honorable mention Wes Hopkins.
Here's hoping Trot lays the fkn lumber against the Bucs.
If he doesn't I'm sure Fat Man will give him his walking papers again.
Obviously Fat Man is bringing him in to raise the intensity of the D and hoping he can bring some kind of run stoppage on short downs.
Either way the Eagles lose nothing financially and maybe they can sell a few left over Trotter jerseys.

Just saw this gem from the Fat Man.
"Jeremiah Trotter has always been one of my favorite players,β head coach Andy Reid said in a press release. βHe has worked very hard to keep himself in shape and we are pleased with where he is physically. We are excited to give him an opportunity to contribute to our football team.β

Hello level. First post. I'll assume a warm welcome.
This play happened in 1990. Steve Kaufusi (94) and Bruce Collie (69) both jump on the pile early in the clip. Kaufusi was an Eagle in 1989 and 1990, and Collie was an Eagle in 1990 and 1991.
I'm not exactly sure how to link because I'm a newb, so if these links are incorrect just give me extra harassment.

I remember that game. The Giants and 49ers were both undefeated that year (10-0 or 11-0) and they both got beat by division rivals (49ers lost to the Rams). Eagles handed them their butts.
Is that also the game that pretty much ended the friendship of Keith Byars and Pepper Johnson, with the block that destroyed Pep?

Favorite moment after that game was "Big Al" asking B&E in the locker room, "Byron, what do you call that dance?", to which he replied "that my dance".
Bass, yes, that was the game with the block you're talking about, but I don't think it ended their friendship. I can recall interviews after that game, and in the years that followed where the two of them reflected on the play and their friendship. The tone was pretty much, no harm, no foul, good play.

The general feeling I'm getting here is Trotter is essentially going to split time with Gaither. Is that the vibe everyone else is getting?
I really, truly want to believe Trot has had a miracle recovery and hope everything works out.
In other LB news, I didn't notice it during the game, but apparently Tracy White is now the starting Nickel linebacker in place of Akeem Jordan.
Spuds was asked about it on the Eagles site and he pretty bluntly said "Akeem hasn't been good in coverage and last year doesn't matter".
It's musical chairs back there.

Didn't Akeem Jordan have 2 interceptions in 3 games? I'd call that decent coverage.

Apparently not, Uber. He's been benched in the nickel package.
INTs don't reflect coverage anyway, but I thought the coverage (overall) was pretty solid thus far other than the Saints game.

I heard GoCong address the Nickel package thing yesterday.
I believe that Trot will be in on obvious run downs, all short ydg and goalline stuff, and STs.
They had only 5 LBs. 4 of which played on STs. To say these cats were thin at LB with the potential for further injury great, big understatement.
I think like i said initially - straight ahead, do what he does- blow things up be they pass or run- get there, cause disrruption in general- that he can do and do like few others who've ever worn the wings on the hat.
I know im likely optimistic in part B/C he is admittedly and well known out here- an all time fav for me. Only Joyner rivals him for me, and Trots out in front.
But puttin that on the table, being up front with you about that so that other comments I make can be taken without suspicion of complete bias- I really do think that this will work out.
I think there's a need there, esp. when games come up against Dallas, NY, teams who will run run run run (tho NYG may do that less than i initally thought headin into the yr).
Lookin fwd to this. If his knees healed up enuff thru the rest, and he's lighter (weighed in officially at 257, which I dont care WHAT the program would list him at in his heyday here, is AT LEAST 8-10lbs lighter than he was, likely 12lbs) then I think this could really pay some dividends.
Lookin fwd to it.

No one is rooting for this to fail, Seth. Least of all me.
I WANT to believe that there's something left in the tank, and that the lack of starter's minutes will keep him somewhat fresh for the stretch run of the season, where this team will either fly or fold.
I WANT to believe that his leadership will help to shore those guys up, to make everyone accountable (which is what this team is lacking) and to keep people in line. I also want to believe that this is the catalyst for something bigger, that will push this team in the right direction.
But I'm incredibly skeptical, and not because I'm getting fitted for a robe. There are other guys out there (and if Air Banjo can still have a job, there's gotta be SOMEONE out there, though missing the admitted intangibles).
It'll come out in the wash eventually, but for now, we'll see some positive results against Tampa.

And BTW, I read somewhere that one time when the defense got a lot of points rung up against them, he blamed everyone except himself. Is that true?

Who...Trot?
Seemed like he definitely had a falling out with Darwin Walker in 2006 when they were struggling against the run. He seemed to to be intimating the job wasn't being done up front and I rememebr (vaguely) some back-channel sniping with Hugh Douglas as the source of most of their bitching.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I don't want it to fail, he's one of my favorite players in the past decade. My pop can find his jersey, too. It's just that seems more like a luxury thing than a depth thing, and that's what worries me. If they were strong at LB depth, and you bring him in for very specific plays, cool. The problem is that Gaither is going to wear down, and hasn't been that good, anyway.
If he can recover from bone on bone, then he's like an octopus. But I do hope it works out. Big difference between questioning the logic behind a move and hoping it fails

Great youtube video. I remember that game.
The Vet was so incredibly loud.

Not sure why anyone would have a problem with this. I understand the doubts about how much he can contribute, but not flat out shitting on this move.
Everyone knew that LB was their thinnest position.
They didn't bring Trot back to replace #55, they brought him in to supplament the LB corps. ISn't this better then MAtt Whileham or another jobber from someone's practice squad? I really don't see any downside. If he stinks, you are in the same position as you are in now. If he increases morale, intensity, or best yet, the play on the field by 1% the team is in a better place.

Dhani was actually ranked 17th in tackles last year with 116, one behind Ray Lewis. I'm not defending the guy's play here, but I think it shows if you put guys in the right system, they can flourish. Every player is not a fit for every team.

You can't really use just tackles of a sign of anything, though. That defense was on the field all the time last year, and we don't know where he made the majority of his tackles. He probably made most of them on RB's 6 yards over the line of scrimmage
