Going by after-game interviews and from some things I read. In some case, I am not sure where I read them.
Trotter and Gaither both started. Reid said this when he explained the decision to have Trotter come out last.
I think Reid or Gaither or Trotter said that the crowd reaction to Trotter coming out last was something.
Trotter joked to a player that didn't dress that the player made more plays than him.
Trotter said that he felt like he was still getting up to speed on the defensive scheme, but that the game was moving slow for him.
Reid said Trotter played ok, not great, considering that they just wanted to get his feet wet.
I am not sure where I got this, but the defensive line played so well that there weren't many chances for Trotter.
Someone said they saw Trotter wandering around looking for someone to hit. (Maybe that was from this site)

Both Baldinger and Igglesblog thought Trotter looked awful. Hopefully he picks it up

Per PFT the Birds are thought to be in the market via trade for a LB to replace Gaither who was injured yesterday.
If this is even remotely true (trade bait believed to be Curtis- um, whatever)-
CAN I MAKE AN IMPASSIONED PLEA RIGHT NOW FOR THEM TO SEEK KEITH BULLUCK OF THE TITANS!?
They're sunk- as in done. He would instantly help, shouldnt cost an arm and a leg due to tread off the tires (9 yrs in the NFL but dude can still play) and it wouldnt be the type of blockbuster that would see you have to do a lot of shuffling if/when Stewart Bradley's healed next year. Hell, there was talk this summer of this being his final year there anyway.
In other words, its manageable. Not dealing with 1 of the super egos that exist at that position, with a lot left in the tank to where they'd have a beef.
I realize he's an OLB and that he's barely 240 lbs, but what the hell is Gaither?
The guy has that nose for the ball, would likely be available, and his acquisition would have some merit/creidibity behind it, rather than say, a Matt Wilhelm type player.

I'm fine with anything they try at this point, but it's pretty clear they can't hide Trotter and Gaither was just as bad in coverage.
I'd take Bullock in a heartbeat. Forgetting the middle for a second, they have have a LB on their team capable of covering a TE. Bullock could, at the very least, end that issue immediately.

If it's Bullock's last year, then it might be win-win - he improves a dismal position on the birds, and if he plays well, he'll be able to command a nice final contract from another team.
It makes sense, but of course they won't go for it. I'd actually be somewhat OK with trading Trot for Runyan (I don't want to believe that Peters only has a sprain - even Asskiss thinks he'll be out for a long time) but it's clear they need to do something because Trotter isn't working.

With Peters, how bad could it possibly be? He was on the sidelines for the entire game STANDING and walking around?
Just from the looks of things, it appeared Abiamiri's was more serious, but who knows. I was just really surprised they let him stand around onthe sidelines if there was any question it could be anything potentially serious.
If it is, Herremans would step in at LT (I assume).

Any chance that this time off has been good for him? Give a guy like that a couple of years to heal... maybe he can be explosive for a couple of weeks, leading by example on ST... then work him in on a couple plays a series against Tampa and Oakland to see how it all works.
The FO has ALWAYS made smart decisions IRT Trotter; whether that was releasing or signing in the past. If you listen to him he says he's 200% better than when he was playing.
Just like Vick (who I think they deal for a second rounder soon) this is a LOW risk HIGH reward type scenario for the Birds. IMO
~Ummmm yeah... uhhh about that. I was absolutely wrong.

LB Banta-Cain was cut by the PAT's today. 6'2 250 and would be a nice upgrade right now.

Weren't there grumblings about Merriman and the Chargers FO? He wasn't doing so well this year and this is his contract year.
Curtis AND Reggie and a 3rd/vs conditional 2nd or Curtis and a 2nd/vs conditional 1st? Or is that too much?

Curtis probably won't play much football again.
Reggie? They won't trade/cut him because he counts against the cap. He'll be the Human Victory Cigar when he can get in games.
Merriman's got stuff swirling around him anyway, between roids and roid rage.

Merriman looks finished right now. He could very well come back, but he ddoesn't have a sack yet this year and he's not really even getting close.

True, FD, but this is his first year back from an ACL and on a Chargers D that is so-so. I think he'd do well in Philly. Time to prove himself, etc. If he recovers, it'd be a coup. If he's not recovered, he's still better than Trotter in the matchup Trotter vs Fargas.

Jules, to be honest, I'm not so sure.
He's never played inside and he's not a coverage guy...he's more like a DE in the 4-3, but he could probably play outside if he wasn't asked to do too much.
He's never been asked to cover all that much and I don't even know if he has a true position in the 4-3.
I think it would be a difficult conversion for him no matter what and it wouldn't pay dividends this year regardless, given the new position and the ACL recovery.

I can't imagine they'll make an impact move, but another possibility might be Barrett Ruud. I have a hard time believing Tamps would deal him, but he's in the final year of his deal and they've been negotiating a new contract since the Spring with nothing done yet.
They are in complete rebuilding mode and he reportedly wants a deal similar to what Bart Scott got. He'll be a FA at the end of the year and the Bucs are completely awful, so maybe you could pry him away if they don't think they can sign him or they won't pay him what he wants?
You'd figure either he or Bradley could transition to the outside in 2010 if such a move were made.
I don't even know if he's on the block and he's not a big guy, but I know he makes a lot of tackles and he has to be better than what they have.

And of course, I thought I had an original idea, but found this with a quick Google search. Derrick Johnson is another interesting name.
Yo, click it

Oh, God...if this is true, just do it:
---------
NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson would be available "for a mid-round pick" before Tuesday's trade deadline.
Johnson's best position is strong-side linebacker in a 4-3 system. Teams that would be a good fit include Chicago, St. Louis, Buffalo, Indianapolis and Oakland, but mid-round picks are still difficult for any club to surrender. Oct. 19 - 5:14 pm et

No need to go through all that trouble for FB. I'm sure he thinks Curtis can be converted to linebacker.

He might as well convert Weaver to a LB since he has decent size and is only getting about 3 snaps per game at FB.

Makes sense because 'spoon will be playing the same position as Trotter, so technically they're competing for playing time.
Trotter's not a backup, he's a situational player in this stage in his career, with his condition and ability. He's not going to be in on passing downs. 'spoon isn't going to be doing a ton of run stopping, but if his injury is worse than advertised, Trotter may be going in by default.
I don't think either is the answer though. After the season, Bradley will be back, and 'Spoon had 2 years on his contract (5 mil for each of the next 2 years). So while it looks like he could be a steal for a WR that's not going to break the starting roster unless a few people get hurt and a 5th rounder, part of the trade involves the Eagles taking on a lot of salery which the Rams want to clear out to rebuild.
Don't get me wrong, healthy he's probably a fine linebacker. But $5mil/year for two years after not even breaking 100 tackles last year and starting to slip on the pass rush the last few years and he's probably in similar condition Trotter's at. Though if one can't deal with pass defense because of lack of mobility and the other can't take the hits that he would have to take in the run defense, platoon the two together and you have one MIKE. Not really the ideal situation, but bandaids aren't designed to be stylish.
