Lyte, there's my foremost problem w/ Reid, in a nutshell.
He has his "brilliant" system based on precision timing & passing. He needs an accurate QB and a stable of WRs who run good, tough routes.
Now, let's say for the sake of argument that he had no choice but to take McNabb, a QB with accuracy problems coming out of Syracuse. Does he tailor his "brilliant" system to fit the abilities of his new QB? Does he draft or sign WRs that fit the physical & mental mold his system requires? Does he take some of the pressure off his inaccurate QB by having a strong run game to help with PA?
NO!!! He decides that he can force an inadequate (for the system) QB to fit his ideas rather than adapt.
Bum Phillips once gave Don Shula the best compliment one Coach can give another. He said "He can take his & beat your, or he can take yours & beat his". Basically saying that Shula could find the strengths in whatever team he had and use those strengths to win.
Andy Reid is no Don Shula. Hell, he ain't even Dave Shula.

Kolb and the spread is actually a good fit because of the need/ability to make quick short passes that the spread feeds off of.
The Chuck and Duck didn't work 15-20 years ago, and it's not going to work now.

Basically, McNabb isn't the game winning QB and difference maker he could have been. Reid needs to adjust his thinking. He won't. So, be prepared to watch the same movie again.
It's like Reid is playing one of those danger quest books where if you choose (a) you go to page 118 and if you choose (b) you go to page 96. And he chooses the same thing EVERY time.
Or I could liken Reid to my cousin's 4 year old son who will watch Thomas the Train (or whatever kid movie he watches) literally 75 times a weekend. Reid watches the same season again and again and shockingly is entertained by it. What an ass douche.

Thanks, Lyte. I'm not sure why I thanked you for telling me that I'm retarded for watching the same stupid movie over and over, but, nonetheless, thank you.

It's ok Jules, we can be retarded together. Maybe tailgates at the link should be done from short buses?

The Eagles had a running game when the offensive line was in good shape. And they have Michael Vick for short yardage situations who can run or pass and is also more effective if there is an offensive line. McNabb is also more effective and accurate when the line can handle the pass rush (ie. They aren't playing Dallas).
The offensive line might be fine when injured players return, but they might not all return. The line would be better than fine if Shawn Andrews could play. So I think an offensive lineman is problably the first or second priority.
The defense needs one or two safeties. I would love to see them have a corner like Revis that can truly shut down any receiver in man-to-man, and I am hopeful that Sheldon Brown could then move to safety.
The linebackers would be fine if Stewart Bradley comes back but what if he doesn't? So another athletically gifted linebacker would be a need.
Then finally, a premier defensive end.
The Eagles need a defensive configuration for goal line stands. That could mean not just a fast defensive end, but someone to be run-stopping end.
I don't even see running back as a need. Nor quarterback, tight end, receiver, defensive tackle, kicker, punter, kick returner, long snapper, and I could make do with the defensive ends we have, if the other positions on defense are upgraded.
I am not sure what to do about Sean McDermott, but maybe he needs players to stay in their home positions and just get better throughout the year.

Could a change to a 3-4 defense be on the horizon? Or is that one of those pipe dreams that I'm having again?

Unless they got a huge maneating DT able to hold the middle and provide 3 down pressure on a consistent basis, a switch to a 3-4 would be a disaster with the current personnel at the moment. You think that people a running all over them now? The Eagles in a 3-4 would have to be nicknamed the "Ole!" defense if that happened.
