This was a bad loss for many reasons. Division standings and future tiebreakers aside, the Eagles are clearly a lousy team at this point in the season. Everybody knew the weaknesses, but nobody realized the extent of those weaknesses.

Castillo is a loyal 'yes-man' who proved yesterday that he is unqualified as a coordinator while Gilbride took him to school. Gilbride isolated each LB and each safety and showed why they were all late round draft picks. Castillo has no defensive scheme and can't possibly make any sensible adjustment due to lack of experience. The DL is the only strength and the all-pro CBs were overpowered by WRs that nobody, including Steve Smith, has ever heard of. Behind the DL, nobody can tackle or cover and were tossed like kittens against pedestrian ball carriers.

The offense, with all of the speed and talent, doesn't do anything, well enough. The Eagles can't gain a yard when they need one, and the red zone is for turnovers and FGs. They can't score on big plays, either, because the other 31 defensive coordinators aren't incompetent. Except for McCoy, Vick and Peters, nobody on the offense has distinguished himself. Did Vick look like he was mentally alert, the week following his concussion?

Reid has forgotten everything he should have learned in 13 seasons. Ridiculous play calling, situational personnel gaffes, halftime non-adjustments, clock mismanagement and dumbfounding gameday decisions all re-surfaced against the NYG. No point itemizing each of the blunders because of the obscene quantity.

There is some hope, however, because there are 13 more games and Reid's teams routinely start off slow, before they usually initiate a winning streak lasting from November through December. There is plenty of talent at some positions but the Eagles don't resemble anything close to a 'dream team.' To make matters worse, the schedule that looked so easy 3 weeks ago suddenly looks difficult, now.

but nobody realized the extent of those weaknesses.

Actually, many people realized them....even among the talking heads.

That Castillo would be bad is also no shock. It didn't take Gilbride or anybody who remotely understands football to realize they were going to exploit their weakness at safety and LB. It was already done by the Falcons and every team last year that even had a mediocre TE or receiving RB. They got worse at LB AND got worse at the defensive coordinator position.

The CB's haven't performed nearly as poorly as you suggested. I disagree that they aren't a strength. They are...but how they are used depends on the enthusiastic but utterly overmatched Castillo.

These weren't forgotten. They were never learned. If you repeat the same mistakes for 13 years, you never forgot......you didn't learn them....ever.

There is "hope". But hope will be dashed if the deficiencies aren't addressed. Um...wait, they are very similar to what they were for 13 other years.

Nobody said they are a "dream" team except for Vince Young. His wonderlic was 6....from 50. Everything else was the echo of wonderment at his bold comment.

The schedule looked tough if you knew what to look for. Many people here did.

So, stuff the platitudes, personal projections couched in the third person expository style of the Brits and get fucked.

Nobody is responding to this because its stupid and was already being commented on in the "game thread".

Notable absence from the Linc Sunday...their $30 million green energy renovation that was supposed to be completed by opening day but didn't appear to have ever been started. I didn't end up going, but my spies told me there was no sign of it.

This is what happens when a couple of guys from BOSTON come to town to run a team in PHILLY. They suck up all THE PEOPLE'S energy and give nothing back to the grid. Buncha selfish bastards.

Every team in the NFL knows how to play the Eagles this year.

The soft under belly of their D is/has been exposed. Of course we knew that as fans before the season started but the FO didn't again.

The only way they win some games is to outscore the other team. And we've seen how that works so far.

Maybe some year they will actually realize that the LB position is important. Especially since every fkn team in the NFL uses their TEs as weapons and any RBs who can catch a football.

DISGUSTING.

HOW LONG MUST WE SING THIS SONG.

Neag:

Yeah, I get the slant here. Not taking anything away from a player playing through pain, but there's a difference. Does Romo take the snaps with his ribs? If a QB can't realistically take a snap, why keep him in there, especially when preliminary indications were that the injury was a break? I'm no Jules, but I thought the same when I saw the swelling.

Relax, the Phils won tonight.

I was more amused when the announcer said he saw a big bruise on Vick's right hand....it's a fucking Superman logo tattoo.

The swelling can be from a soft tissue injury but is often accompanied by a fracture. Unless. It is a tendon injury. I also find that the punctured lung was severely over emphasized. The rib fracture would hurt more but u can get a local nerve block for that.

Vick uses the right hand for control purposes but should be able to play....at least in 2 weeks. Reid and the line need to show some shame and give him real protection.

I got stuck watching most of the Niners-Cincy game this week.

They might as well let Vick rest because there is pretty much no way they lose this one.

13 points should be enough. Smith is horrific.
