Explain.

He was asking the reporters to watch the games on TV and explaining how a coverage sacks happens again.

"If he throws right away, its tough to get a sack. If he hitches, you might get one or you may get a hit. If he hitches twice, you can get a sack!"

Asante Samuel blowing up might have been the best thing to happen to Castillo all year.

The worst thing will be when he asks AS to play press against Miles Austin on Sunday

Why doesn't the NFLHoF recognise Coordinators?

If the last 3 years haven't shown how much Jim Johnson hid the warts of Andy Reid, I don't know what would.

Fitzgerald had just two catches for 52 yards in the first three quarters, including a 42-yarder late in the first quarter against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie that was wasted when kicker Jay Feely missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt. He had a 10-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter when, in another piece of strange coverage strategy, Castillo foolishly tried to cover him with rookie linebacker Brian Rolle.

Then came the fourth quarter. He had three catches on the Cardinals' game-tying scoring drive, including a 7-yard touchdown reception on which the ball ricocheted off cornerback Joselio Hanson's right hand directly to Fitzgerald.

Had two more on their game-winning drive, including the killer 37-yarder to the 1 against Jarrett.

Asked why Jarrett found himself alone on Fitzgerald on that play, Castillo replied, "I gotta do a better job, man. I got do a better job. Simple as that."

Asked again why Jarrett was on Fitzgerald, Castillo said, "Because I gotta do a better job."

See what we're dealing with here?

I think we'll be treated to another explanation of coverage sacks and their all-encompassing effect on the game today.

For hat it's worth, I was listening to his press conference and those quote yesterday. It sounded to me like he was just trying to avoid throwing his players under the bus. It seemed like those more in the know think Castillo truly isn't putting them in the right position to make plays.

This is part scheme and part execution, but there are audibles in coverage based on formation. I get the impression that Castillo is calling plays with the idea that Brian Rolle will not be covering Fitzgerald, but the Cardinals found a formation that would dictate that coverage audible.

Maybe more experienced players would compensate in real time rather than shifting into that dumb coverage, but based on the play of the defense in the 4th quarter of games this year, it makes me wonder if we're just dealing with the simple reality that the opposing offensive coordinators are professionals and they are overmatching Juan.

It makes sense, given they are professionals who have dedicated their lives to their specialty and Juan is running the defense as some kind of blackmail plot or make-a-wish scenario.

I think they are just dictating coverages by formation and taking advantage of the mandated adjustments in his scheme. Then, he's stuck reacting after it succeeds while the offense moves on to exploit the next coverage on their list.

It's almost like child's play for the offenses. They don't even look panicked or concerned. Every QB looks like Tom Brady in the 4th quarter against these guys.

Any defensive strategy other than having assmouthface cover Fitzgerald all over the field regardless of where he lines up is retarded, period.

The only caveats there are Asante can only play the left side and I think losing DRC forced them to make some adjustments because they didn't want to leave Hanson out on an island.

I would almost think they will play better next week now that they have a "conventional" slot CB since DRC was in an aircast (and might not make it next week), but they still have issues at LB/S.

Still trying to figure out how Coleman didn't make the stop on the goal line.

Undersized, 7th round pick, playing out of position, in a brand new scheme, run by an offensive line coach...

Shit, we should be surprised every time he makes a stop.

BTW, I really hope Jarrett is just stupid and unable to display his ability because he doesn't know what's going on. I thought this guy was supposed to be a human missile and he's jogging around/pushing people out of bounds.

After looking at the play over & over, I can only come to the following conclusions;

1. he meant to miss
2. he closed his eyes

I know, it sounds stupid and KPL, but check the footage. The guy is coming straight to the goal line and he aims for a spot that is ONE FOOT behind the play.

When I was a kid, I went to Florida with my parents, went to Disney, and visited some relatives.

My great aunt down there had a couple of cats. One of those cats tried to jump from the floor into a table and missed right by about a foot (from about 2 feet away) while we were visiting with her. My aunt said that was very common because the cat had been bitten by some kind of snake or something (can't remember exactly what it was) and survived, but had issues with depth perception, balance, and coordination.

Maybe Coleman was bitten by a snake or something?

No, he just stinks, and it was covered up by the worst starting QB in the NFC throwing to him 3x and him getting lots of tackles, which is more of an indictment of the horrible LBs who really should be making the plays.

Coleman and a few of those other players on D seem like they make plays on accident - no reason why ANYONE should be touting late-round picks as contributors, like they're the final pieces of a SB puzzle

yes. some beat writer wrote about it yesterday, and it stuck with me. now, i don't know shit about coaching football, but the point made was simple: NA completely shut down LF last year with simple man-to-man the whole game. a jv high school could scheme that. so why make it harder on yourself with complicated schemes? it just makes no sense.

If you've never done it before, it's not that simple.

I don't want to speak out of turn, but I think NA had help with Fitz last year, but the Raiders play more man, so Asomugha isn't out of sorts. But it's an experienced DC running a simple scheme.

If you're out of sorts trying to adjust your other 10 players to suit Asomugha's strengths, how can you even properly use him?

Tim McManus on 97.5 - basically, on the Fitz play, Reid thought they called a blitz, Castillo called man coverage with a safety over the top, and Asante Samuel thought they were playing zone.

You can't script this

There are a couple things to consider in this case.

The first is Star CB Asante Samuel only plays the left side. He can't play the right and never has in his career, so they can't just have Nnamdi follow Fitz on every snap.

With that said, you could have him follow Fitzgerald on every snap OTHER than the ones where he's matched up on Asante. Doesn't seem like too difficult of an adjustment.

Another thing regarding Nnamdi following Fitzgerald...Castillo doesn't know anything about defense or coaching defense, but his only credentials were his close relationship to Jim Johnson, who did not like matching up CBs on receivers all over the field and never did it.

to me, one of the more bizarre elements in JC's hiring is that as on Oline coach, one might think that he at least has some well developed ideas about Dlines and what he wants to do there. yet that is the exactly the part of the D that they brought in a veteran coach to implement his own, radical system.

it just seems so weird to take the one part of the D that he might have some expertise in and then take it off his plate.
