They knew this would happen.

I don't think they knew the defense would be this bad. The Eagles acquired 5 veteran starters, and used 3 of their top 4 draft picks, so they had to presume that the defense would improve, compared with 2010. As for Castillo, he has been an NFL assistant for 17 years, so he should know what he is doing, by now. This is/was a great opportunity for Castillo.

Yeah, I think they were sold on Reid helping McDermott call plays last year and figured it shouldn't be that hard. Plus, they went on a spending spree for all those guys on defense, brought in a scheme to improve their pass rush since it was so bad last year, and probably thought that forcing teams to throw on 3rd down to their excellent CBs would be the most likely scenario.

It's been a fail for all sides, especially the FO.

Living down here in the DC area I find quite a few parallels between Snyder and Reid ...if you substitute Andy Reid's name with Dan Snyder's name you have the exact same opinions of the respective organizations. The only difference being that all is forgotten down here at the moment...3-1 will do that. "Snyder-Reid" needs to go. "Snyder-Reid" is sailing a sinking ship. "Snyder-Reid" makes the same mistakes over and over and over and never learns. "Snyder-Reid" needs to stay out of the personnel acquisition department. "Snyder-Reid's" ego is monstrous. When will "Snyder-Reid" learn from his mistakes?

So what is so different this year down here? For once, Snyder has actually acquiesced to Shanahan and has actually allowed him to use the draft to build a team. I don't think they are Superbowl contenders but there is a difference in the number of young players, especially rookies, who are making an impact (Kerrigan for example).

So what's the answer in Philly? Well, there is no way Reid is giving up GM duties, there is no way he is going to downsize his ego, and there is no way he is going to learn from his mistakes. So unfortunately an overhaul might be the only answer.

I think Lurie/Banner had legitimate SB aspirations. They won the NFCE in 2010, already had a plethora of offensive weapons, then acquired 5 veteran starters on defense. The defensive woes are not the only problem.

In 2002 Reid drafted Sheppard and Brown to eventually replace Vincent and Taylor. So everybody presumed Reid had foresight with his drafting. However, when Runyan and Thomas completed their respective contracts, Reid was negligent to not replenish the OTs with the same foresight. After the Eagles lost Shawn Andrews, the OL has never recovered. The reason the offense is less than anticipated is due to Reid's negligence replenishing the OL. As a result, the offense can't rescue the defense any more.
