We'll always have the Miracle at the Meadowlands part II.

Honestly, is he really all that "special"?

Yeah, he's done some great things in the past, but he hasn't done dick this year, and he's becoming a liability in punt returns with his patented start-by-going-ten-yards-in-reverse move. It sure looks like teams now know that one is coming, and they're more than happy to let him lose yardage.

His sole stellar attribute is blazing speed, but can't they draft another super-fast guy and just throw him into the videogame offense? It's not as if LeSean has shown some phenomenal hands or even anything remotely resembling leadership, dare I say maturity.

I think he's very replaceable, although they would have to draft a guy for that role. They can't just plug in Riley Cooper and say, "We're fine."

Tag him, net whatever precious you can for this asshole, and move on.

He's not playing well this year and I don't think he had a great season last year, but I do think he's much more than just a fast guy.

The thing that is just bizarre to me is he's regressed in the offense. He was a more complete player in his first two seasons than his last 2. Last year, they basically turned him into Todd Pinkston and this year they just use him as a decoy.

The slants, deep outs, drag routes, WR screens, posts...all gone. I don't know if he stopped running them with purpose since he took some big hits or if the Eagles retardedly stopped calling the plays and I think either is a distinct possibility.

Sucks, but if they are going to use him the way they have this year, there's no point in signing him, anyway.

This dick, hasn't done dick (sans the punt return and the redskin game), since the Atlanta game when he got knocked out.

Franchise tag next year, but don't expect a first, and dump this dickhead.

According to Fox it was more than him missing practice. Loafing in the last game etc.

Reid doesn't want to deal with his attytude on and off the field.

FD, let's not forget Vick put Desean out there during TC, and they haven't been right since.

I think the offense will be better without his 6 drops per game and special teams will be better without his -10 yard punt returns/fumbles. No bench press in the driveway next week because I don't think Jackson has been to a gym in his life; we are almost certain to have a similar circus act with Rosenhaus involved.

Desean hasn't shown up for a while.

It's good they didn't give him that monster contract he though he earned.

Don't know, Ub.

Asking someone to play hard on $550K is tough

Jackson is in a contract year, therefore this is the year he needs to play hard. Whether he is negotiating with Banner or any other team, his statistics will determine his next contract and his statistics aren't very good compared with other WRs. Had he overperformed his rookie contract, Banner would have extended him. Now he is a discipline problem with bad stats and undersized; who is going to give him a giant signing bonus? He is one step away from Reid banishing him. If he continues on this path he will find himself retired, soon. I think he should follow McCoy, disassociate with Rosenhaus, and start kissing Reid's/Mornhinweg's/Banner's respective asses. Otherwise he should start performing and hope to impress someone with his film.

I hate to say it, but PT is dead-on. I agree that he might feel underpaid, and he definitely would have been if he had shown up this year, but the fact remains that this was the year he needed to step up, play consistently, and show his stuff. Someone, maybe not the Eagles, was going to throw a ton of money at him during this offseason. That pile has been getting smaller each game, and the Eagles FO is looking a lot smarter now.

I guess the flaw in my thinking is whether this is a chicken and egg problem. Is DeSean mailing it in because of the contract?

Since the big hit last year he hasn't been the same. He's like Boom Boom Mancini after he killed Dukoo Kim. He doesn't have that killer instinct. You could see it in his eyes last week when he was getting ready to field the last punt...no energy, no pacing around, he just stood there like a statue. He is finished as an Eagle.

Let's not get it twisted - someone will throw a lot of money at him next year.

FD talked about it earlier - all the things that Desean used to do, to be incorporated in this offense.....just *poof*.

He's absolutely thinking about his contract, and he's played the good soldier all year (let's not forget the TD saving tackle he made in the Falcons game). If the Eagles wanted to pay him, they would have.

But look at what's he's watching:
- Steve Smith made one of the most GUTLESS plays ever seen and he's getting paid $2 mil (at least).
- Rodgers-Cromartie is another GPotY (Gutless Player Of The Year) candidate.
- Asomugha is getting PADE, but he's underperformed, even if he hasn't been terrible.

Guys all around him making more than him, and he's supposed to work harder than them for less $$$, considering his importance?

Look, I'm not saying I agree with him, but understand his mindset - he's the most important player on the team b/c of his versatility and how opposing defenses play him, which frees up guys like Maclin and Avant to play against single coverage, and which also frees up the running game b/c teams are playing a safety 20 yards from the LOS. And he's making the Red Light Special?

But let's not think he's going to just retire at the end of the year b/c no team wants him. He's a WR, a diva position, and you treat those guys differently, unfortunately, if you want them to play every down.

And let's also remember that he and Vick aren't on the same page at the most inopportune time. Vick trusts Maclin more than Desean, and some of Vick's passes have been str8 off.

I still content they were never right from training camp, and DJax had an issue with Vick's comments, and they haven't seen eye-to-eye since.

The problem I have is I can't tell if it's the chicken or the egg. Vick hasn't been on target and they are attempting fewer throws down the field.

This is inexact but just a general idea for how much a part of the offense Desean used to be compared to now. Here are the number of games Desean has had 5 or more touches on offense by season:

2008: 10
2009: 8
2010: 5
2011: 3

Now, I'm not saying Desean is being an angel and I don't know what kind of effort he's giving, but it seems like his role in the offense has kind of followed the path of his contract talks, which isn't terribly uncommon with the Eagles.

From Yahoo's Losers:

• This week’s biggest one: The Philadelphia Eagles’ DeSean Jackson(notes), who was inactive Sunday after missing a meeting Saturday because of “oversleeping.” Jackson wasn’t just late, he missed the whole thing. One source close to Jackson said Sunday night that the wide receiver, in the final year of his current contract, is frustrated about not getting a new deal before the season and, over the past few weeks, Jackson sees himself getting “shut out” by the coaching staff. “He thinks they’re trying to drive down his value,” the source said, referring to the fact that Jackson had only eight catches for 93 yards in the past three games. When it was pointed out that Jackson was doing a great job of driving down his value by missing the meeting, the source laughed wearily and said, “Yeah, I know, but we’re not talking about the most mature guy in the world.” Last year, for instance, head coach Andy Reid yelled at Jackson after one game for not being focused. Jackson openly sulked afterward, even though the Eagles won.

For the record, I don't think the Eagles actively try to depress the value of a player in these situations, but I feel like they start moving on.

Like, if they are having a tough time signing him and don't think they want to franchise him, they'll start game planning almost like he's an afterthought in preparation for life without him.

That might sound crazy and I don't think it's done with malice, but I think they just kind of forget about him since they no longer consider him a "core guy" and don't consider him a key member of the team.

That is just a nicer way of saying they are purposely making him look bad. Why should he work hard and put his body on the line when he is their superstar on offense with shady and reserves make more than him?

He gets hurt. Then what? He was underpaid his entire time as an Eagle. They are taking advantage of him. If he was overpaid they would cut him in a heartbeat. It doesn't work both ways.

He may not be getting a ton of balls thrown his way but it was painfully obvious yesterday that the offense is inept when Jackson is not on the field. He is a deep threat, and even when Maclin WAS playing yesterday, without Jackson the WRs were zero concern for the Cards.
