S. Davis on the wire

Okay, so some braintrust in my ultra-deep league just dropped an injured Stephen Davis.

Now I'm torn as to if I should put a claim in or not. I've got Faulk and Steckler going this week, along with an injured D. Davis and Bettis on the bench. The league also starts 3 wideouts, and I've got an injured Warrick and Bennett on the bench there (along with R. Wayne in my WR/RB slot). Rounding out my bench is Carr, but I need to keep a safe #3 QB since we start two of them.

So now what? We get points for receptions, and Bennett has that covered pretty well. Warrick is injured but I can't just drop a #1 wideout. D. Davis is a stud when he's healthy. All I can really consider is Bettis, but he's already a goal line vulture and would be immeadiately upgraded to a #1 RB if Staley went down.

Plus, S. Davis is due to be out another 1-3 weeks, and Foster tore it up last week in his place.

What do you guys think - Make a move, or stand pat and let someone else take a risk on him?

I think I'd make the Bettis for Davis.

If someone offered that to you as a trade (Davis healthy), would you take it?

Yeah, I know it's the smart move. I just needed someone to agree with me. Thanks.

I have a question.

Steven Davis injured this week, but likely to play

or

Michael Pittman healthy and a new QB in. Gotta figure he'd get the ball more to slow down the rush.

But everytime I overanalyse this and don't put the stud player in, it bites me in the ass.

(First off, I dropped Bettis...a day before his dual-TD performance. He's still a risky start, but he will pay off in spades for those goal-line scores for the guy that just grabbed him. Oh well, I've always had bad luck with goal line vultures anyway, so now I don't have to decide)

As far as Davis, his stand-in has been on a real tear. Then again, if Davis is ready to go then he must really mean he's ready. I bet they split carries this week. The line I heard is that Davis will get the goal line shots, though.

Tough call...I'd add in another post later.

I don't think Deshaun Foster is on much of a tear. My mom would shred the KC defense for a couple hundred and 2 scores. Q did it week one and how has he been since then? I think that, when healthy, Davis goes back to getting the Lion's Share of the carries.

"I think that, when healthy, Davis goes back to getting the Lion's Share of the carries."

Well yeah, no one argues that. The question is how much he'll play this Sunday. I think that after Foster's recent work, it is more likely to be a bit of a split.

I just read that Davis's knee hasn't been swollen all week - that's a great sign. You have to figure that he's playing this week, and even worst-case he'll hopefully be the red zone guy.

Pittman does have the new QB going for him, but it looks like TB RB's haven't run in a score all year. Plus, if Simms falters and they get behind in the game, it becomes even more of a passing attack. Pittman can catch, but so can Alstott.

I bet Pittman racks up more overall yards than Davis, but I think Davis brings a better chance at a least one TD.

Conventional FFL wisdom says take the healthy back w/ a young QB over a returning RB off a injury. I think Davis will split carries and take at least a week or two to really get his legs and being productive again. Pittman is playing againest a poor run defense with a rookie QB. Gruden is gonna go with the run early and a lot of high percentage passes. So that means screens to the half back. While Alstott is a good pass catching fullback, I have a funny feeling Alstott will be in more as a extra blocker than the occasional safety valve. I never bank on a player being a redzone TD vulture unless they've shown to be effective that way for more than one week. I'd play Pittman for the sure yardage points and see how Davis looks in his first game back, some points are better than no points.
