New Orleans trip, anyone?

Gentlemen, mark your calendars.

October 15, 2006

Eagles vs. Saints in the repaired Superdome.

Seriously, this could be a blast, and as long as I can get the days off from work, I'm ready to go for a four-day weekend. Getting Banneresque deals on tickets should be easy considering that a large chunk of the Saints fanbase has been relocated, and they haven't been a big draw since the '80s.

We could eat and drink like kings in New Orleans, and I know a lot of great restaurants and places to hear killer local music. I've never been anywhere half as fun as New Orleans, and with a Birds game being the proverbial cherry on top of a great weekend, this is a no-brainer.

Flights are typically cheap to New Orleans, and I think Southwest will go there from Philly for something like $79 one-way. Great hotel rooms can also be had at ridiculous prices if you use Priceline to your advantage.

Plus, this is one of the few obviously winnable games for the Eagles. With the team likely coming off of a demoralizing home loss to T.O. & Co., we may all be in need of a weekend getaway.

And there's an added bonus:

Thanks to the "Great Cleansing" of Katrina, the city has been virtually swept clean of the impoverished, making New Orleans safe for both Republicans and waiters.

I cannot believe this game is the same weekend as Penn State-Michigan. Two games all year I would actually want to attend, and they're less than 24 hours apart. Unbelievable.

we talked about an eagles road trip

here are some facts

new orleans game, Sunday 10/15. 12 noon central time

leave sat am
return mon aftn

hotel is less than 1/2 mile from superdome
ticket is 50 yd line in upper level

airfare rd trip 240
ticket 95
hotel 110 x 2 nts
______
555

not counting food, drink and taxi

so about $ 700-750 should cover the whole weekend

these items would be purchased seperately, not as a package.

if we're gonna do it, we should decide soon.
that flight is already 50% booked

YUCK, southwest, everything that is wrong with air travel. Please do a business traveler a favor and don't fly on that communist airline!

Check out my New Orleans package at PhillyTailgate.com. We have a direct flight going in on Friday and a small layover on the way home on Monday. Drop me a line at mongo@phillytailgate.com, as I don't have a lot of seats left on my flight. I am teaming up with the Green Legion for a tailgate party on Bourbon Street followed by a parade, A PARADE, to the Superdome...

EEB, where were those tickets coming from? I definitely want to go to this game, but I'll pass on the scam artist packages, especially since there are plenty of good deals on flights (at least from NYC) and hotels that can be found. And there's a parade every five minutes in New Orleans, so we can make our own damn parade together.

Anyway, if a group of us are going, it would be cool to try and get seats in the same section, if possible. I called the Saints a few weeks ago about single-game tickets, but since Bush-mania has taken hold, they anticipate selling the entire season as season tickets.

Mongo,
I travel for a living and your prices are unbelievable. What do you think we are a bunch of fucking backwoods hillbillies? You can get a room in New Orleans for 79 a night at a Hilton Honors hotel or Priority Club. Dude, get a life and go play on the Dol-Fans website or drink some gasoline!

Question: at these gatherings, is it usually just the members of the site who are invited? Or are we allowed to bring girlfriends, brother-in-laws, friends, etc?

My girlfriend and I are still thinking about it. We haven't decided anything yet, and the decision will probably hinge on how expensive the tickets will be.

FYI, there are some decent prices on StubHub right now.

And my girlfriend has found some three-star hotels in the French Quarter for $50-60 a night.
