Talon will be glad to host you and your group at Tony Luke's - serving Philly Cheesesteaks and a Philly atmosphere.
Talon?

there is a philly bar called the town tavern in the west village. it has a good crowd but in my opinion has a lack of watchable screens. i normally go to st. marks ale house on st. marks in the east village. it rocks. doubles as a big bears bar but you won't have to worry about that saturday. i'm a philly transplant who now lives in manhattan

Cosign on St. Marks. Town Tavern is a decent crowd but the layout isn't conducive to actually watching the game -- St. Marks is definitely the spot.

How long has that place been there? How could I have lived, at most, 2 blocks away from a bar like that and not known?

I've been going there to watch the Eagles for about 5 years. Some of the regulars have been going for at least 8 or 9. I don't know how long the bar has actually been there though.

LKV11G, if you would like to pay ridiculous prices for beer and mediocre food while watching the game on crappy TVs, I suggest you go to St. Mark's Ale house.
But if you want to go to the best Eagle bar in town, dine on the best cheesesteaks east of the Jersey Turnpike, savor the only Roast Pork Italian you can find in NYC, and drink $3 and $2.50 pints during all NFL games, Tony Luke's (9th Ave. bet 42nd and 41st) is the place for you. It is the 700level.com bar of choice, and we have a raucous atmosphere on gameday. There are a lot of levelers there, and you will not be disappointed.
I'll be running the sound at the end of the bar. Stop on in, and I'll introduce you to the rest of the level contingent. Who knows? Maybe even Uber will show up?

Because it's just a generic, overpriced bar that happens to get some Eagles fans on Sunday, and it was never worth your time.

having been to luke's about three times this year, i can tell you it's a pretty nice experience. ability to actually see the game is key for me and TL's definately has that covered with multiple large-sized flat-screens around the bar and on the walls.
i am also always shocked by how low my bill is after 7-8 beers and something to eat.
so, good viewing, good crowd, good food and good price = good choice for the game.
unfortunately, i have my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary dinner that night, so i'll be absent.

you probably never noticed it because its set back off the street a few feet and no real sign in front (other than the one that says st. marks hotel on the roof). its literally right off the astor street stop on the 6.
i agree - tony luke's is good if you happen to be in times square and is one of the few places in the city to get a decent roll. but if you are like me you avoid that area like the plague.
go birds!

Aside from watching the Phillies choke against the Mets, this should be a good time...
Shorty's (formerly Tony Luke's)
576 Ninth Avenue, New York, NY
Tuesday, April 17, 6:00pm
212-967-3055
On Tuesday, April 17, Shorty's (formerly Tony Luke's) will send this year's edition of the Apollo into orbit. To help ease the tax burden from the day before, Shorty's will be pouring $3 pints of 3 different Sixpoint beers from 6-10pm. A Sixpoint/Shorty's cheesesteak combo will be offered for $6.00. Among the beers being served are the aforementioned Apollo, Diesel, and Righteous Rye.
Also, the New York Mets are playing the Philadelphia Phillies. It goes without uttering, but what could be better than devouring some of the most sublime Philly-style sandwiches in the city while watching the Mets devour the Phillies? The action will be shown on all of Shorty's television sets.
To get to Shorty's, take the A, C, E, 2, 3, N, R, W to Times Square/42nd Street/Port Authority stops and walk west until you hit ninth avenue. If it's raining and you don't want to get wet, follow the signs in the subway station to Port Authority Bus Terminal. Walk through the terminal to the Ninth Avenue exit, then make a right on Ninth Avenue and walk a half block.

Same owner, same food, same place.
Better beer selection, more TVs arriving soon, upgraded interior layout, new name.
What's not to like?

I am back again. First off, thank you to everyone who posted for where to watch the eagles-saints game. Due to a prior committment I wasn't ablt to make it out. Hoever, since then I have moved to NYC for work and I am anxiously awaiting the start of the season. Since I can't make it home to attend the games, I am looking for a good place to watch them, prefrebly with other Eagles fans. I live in Queens but can travel into Manhattan. It looks like Tony Lukes has changed it's name? Am I mistaken? I am also familiar with the Town Tavern. Is anyone going out to watch the game this weekend? Let me know. Thanks!

If you want to watch the Birds in NYC, there is only one place for you to go. Tony Luke's is now called Shorty's. They've expanded the menu, put twice as many beers on tap, re-did the sound, and bought more TVs. In short, the place has only gotten better. As far as it being a Birds bar, the last several games of last season were epic events in that place, culminating in the Saints playoff game that had a crowd as fired up as those in the stadium. I have honestly never experienced anything like that outside of The Vet or the Championship game at the Linc against the Falcons.
Seeing as how it's the first game of the year, I can't promise that the crowd will be insane like last year, but the room will assuredly be dominated by Birds fans. As far as Town Tavern goes, the only reason to go there is if you live nearby and are lazy. Otherwise, that place is really weak.
Come to Shorty's on Sunday. I'll be the guy with the fu man chu running the sound. We may even have an Uber sighting. Flesh, will you be in town? Amanda got fired a long time ago, but that's no reason you shouldn't come get obliterated and piss off your fiancee.

Although there's a new one that puts Amanda to shame. She won't be there tomorrow, but she's slated to work Sundays throughout the season.

LKV11G, did you show up and were afraid to introduce yourself? The place was packed with Birds fans on Sunday. Everything was great...except the game.
