hey fellas, would appreciate help with a couple of things.

1. are there any better directions for getting to lehigh from harrisburg than the ones on the official site?

2. do we usually meet up in the intermission between the morning and afternoon practices?

3. best time to arrive, and how to get the best view of the action? specifically, i heard that you have to stake out a good spot to see the live scrimmage at the end of the morning session?

4. anything else you wished you knew when you were a first time campgoer

thanks, fellas. see you saturday.

Penn just remember "Burden equals Truth" the rest is just gravy for the brain...

Actually I came out to camp last year with AE and I think we used the direction from the O-site, it's a long ride but the directions are good.

1. No. I come from there, too. I got directions last year from Lehigh's Athletic Director. I also got the camp schedule ahead of time so I could get hotel reservations. (shh) Same directions. You can't accidently stumble across training camp.

2. I wouldn't have recognized these people, then. Last year, I think I dozed and bitched or something. Too far to go back the the (sorry assed)'hotel'...gotta drive 10 miles for a cheeseburger...the toilets suck...i ran out of bottled water to wash the cow shit off my legs...you know, general shit like that.

3. E.A.R.L.Y. (if you plan on parking and/or breathing) Also-a sprinkle and they're into the fieldhouse and you're standing around knee deep in liquid cow shit with some idiotic rain parka on.
I am not a sitter. I move up & down the ropes like a deranged soccer mom. But I'm not alone. There's a sort of 'crowd-oozing protocol' There's sitters and there's standers. Nothing wrong with sitting, but if you're sitting somewhere where you have to use binoculars to read the ##s, you could stay home. That's just my personal opinion. I wanna be within 10 feet or I wouldn't waste my time.

4. AVOID THE TENT AT ALL COSTS! It's hot, it's crowded and it's a rip off. You can go farther up the incline, (by the port-o-johns)step over some log/curbs and go around by the tennis courts. This is also how you can access the oppposite side of the field.

I haven't been yet this year, so maybe they screwed with me and multiplied the tent to cover the tennis courts.

Juan Castillo is extremely entertaining to watch.

Well, there's the obvious "get the f**k out of Harrisburg" advice, but that's just from me-to-you.

There are good places to eat in the Lehigh Valley, and Starters is one of them. If you're going to camp, try to connect with one of the Lehigh Valley natives on the board (johnson, hooky, me, I think that there are a couple others). If you like other cuisines, there are some Italian restaurants, I think a French restaurant, and a ton of "suburban chain" restaurants. There aren't any good asian food places that I'm aware of.

There is also a hill on the other side of the playing fields from where you enter. It's a good place to go and you can still see what's going on.

The directions to Lehigh aren't spectacular, but you're basically looking for the "Goodman Campus/Stabler Arena" area. LV people, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the name of the area with the track, the fieldhouse and the practice fields, right? There are signs when you get to the South Side of Bethlehem.

If you're going on a day when other Levelers are going to be there, you might want to exchange cell phone numbers with them. "Contact Us" if you need to do that.

Like Hooli said, get there early. This is even more true with TO in the mix now.

I guess my last piece of advice would be to move out of Harrisburg.

Hey!

You mean that little hill on the other side of the fieldhouse? Yeah-you can see from there. Especially special teams. As wet as it's been, take your plastic ass though.

Yeah, yeah, I know there are places to go in Allentown-not what I'm saying.

I'm saying there's not much to do near training camp in between morning & afternoon sessions without driving. If you get a halfway decent parking spot in the AM.....

And the tent DOES suck. It's an outlet without air conditioning.

After you check out camp, you should head across the river into downtown Bethlehem for Musikfest. It's a 10 music festival that attracts over a million people annually, and is an absolute must see!

Their website is www.musikfest.org

Check it out. Some of the players head over in the evenings too!
It runs August 5-14 this year.

GO BIRDS!!!!

Damn, I haven't thought about Musikfest in years! I think the last time I was there, I was with slunky. We should think about organizing an outing to musikfest.

I'm all for a Musikfest excursion... you just have to find your way to the Lehigh Valley sometime in the first two weeks of August.

Yeah, baseball season may be over, but the ol' equipment bag just doesn't seem to be able to reliquish it's hold over the cargo space in my ride. What to choose...

First, there's the ol blue Worth 29/17. That thing has been responsible for more hits than I care to mention. It's a veteran stick just looking for the next serving of meatball.

Then there's the Rawlings 30/18. A new one that's pretty much waiting for next season to prove itself but isn't going to object to proving itself early.

Last, there's my own personal offering, a 27-year old Ted Williams wooden stick that I myself swung. Yeah, it's seen better days but it can still knock the tar out of whatever finds itself on its business end.

Choices.

BTW, it's MusiKfest with a "K" (and for those scoring at home, don't confuse that with a strikeout)

holla.
